Step back, observe. There is magic afoot.

Also play a little victory song with your ocarina.

You play a little victory song as the serpent continues to melt. Its bones unravel into crinkly black ribbons. There's a huge spill of black goop and flakes of white skin.

It begins to snow softly outside. The area is quiet.

Everyone except Charlotte is covered in dried blood, and Pearl is also grimy with coal dust.

We have two options in front of us at the moment. Our first option would be fortifying our current position while charlotte is recovering before exploring the well. Our other option is for us to return to the well immediately to loot and/or explore it. Personally, I'd prefer option #1

The snake was probably an enchantment or a summoned spirit of some kind.

Poke the goop, see what happens to the stick.

You grab a splinter of the staircase and poke at the goop. It coats the stick where it went in, but nothing interesting happens.

I suppose a finger poke might be safe to venture, then.

Curiosity gets the better of you and you poke your finger in the goop. It smells gross but other than that, no effect.

Pearl whispers something to Claire, who nods. They both watch you expectantly.

Fortify your position and try to ease the ills and pains of Charlotte. Tell the others to gather wood and rocks.

That, and ask if someone might have conjured this beast.
