I think it would be better to retreat to the hatch and attack the lindworm from the more tactically advantageous spot.

Someone should at least shoot it from the bridge.

Could throw the jug or bottle at it, then a flame or torch, might set it on fire. Then close the hatch to stop any smoke ect.

Edit:Actually, nevermind, that is a bad idea.
We could have Claire, as it advances, shoot at the beasts eyes/head in general, then close the hatch, then retreat. Wish we had Pearl's spells. So Claire shoots while we stay low and work on closing the hatch.

I think the body is more vulnerable than the head. The head can see and attack us. She should shoot the body, it's stuck in the doorway. If someone ran around while the head was distracted, the snake would have to pull itself all the way out backwards before it could attack them.

Fair enough, body will be easier to hit anyway.

Because there seem to be a lot of misconceptions, I wanna clear some things up.

1: The "bridge" is outside the compound, to the north, and it's made of stone and crosses the river. I think you may be referring to the connection between the guard tower's upper floor and the shop next door ... the two buildings are butted up against each other. It's just a doorway with a big wooden door that's busted out. You could fire at the worm from the long horizontal slits in the guard tower 2F.

2: You are still on the steep staircase leading from the guard tower upper floor and ground floor. Pearl and Claire are off the stairs above, Charlotte is still on the stairs above you (that was just how far everyone could make it in that time). The hatch to seal off the stairs is just below you, so if you close it all of your party is above and the worm is below.

3: The worm is about 2' across and about 20' - 25' long. Its head is at the foot of the steep staircase and its body trails out of the front door. It's not stuck.

4: Your body and Charlotte's are blocking the staircase, preventing missile fire from Claire. If you move up the stairs and get into the upper floor completely, you won't be able to reach the hatch anymore. There's about 3' from the level of the floor above to the hatch below; it's not flush with the floor.

Well thanks for that, so, close the hatch and prepare a better attack plan or trap for if it breaks through?

Point is, though, its body is sticking out the door, and the head is in the room. If some of us distracted the head from where we currently are, then Claire could shoot the body from the window-slits, or perhaps someone could even run all the way around behind it and attack the body.

If someone came around from behind, it would have to pull itself out of the room or turn around in order to get at them, leaving it vulnerable to those still on the stairs. We'd effectively surround it, forcing it to leave one side vulnerable to attack if it meant to defend itself.

Claire leaps across the room to the slits facing south, into the courtyard, and fires an arrow at the worm below. Charlotte tries to get up the stairs but she slips and almost falls. You slam the hatch shut and the locking block falls into place as the worm begins to slither up the staircase - seemingly unaware Claire was shooting at it. Pearl follows Claire to the slit and looks outside but can't really throw a dagger through it. Her spellbook is downstairs with her pack so she can't cast.

Your whole party is in the 2nd floor of the guard tower. The white serpent is inside the 1st floor with some of its body extending out the front door. Very narrow stairs lead up and down, but a sturdy hatch blocks both exits. An open broken doorway leads west into the shop building.

Everyone except Charlotte is covered in dried blood, and Pearl is also grimy with coal dust.

orders for our party
claire: continue firing at the serpent
Pearl: prepare to throw daggers at the serpent when it breaks through
Charlotte: prepare to stab/slice the serpent when it breaks through the hatch, preferably out of the line of fire of the daggers

Our action: attempt to chop the head off the serpent when it breaks through the sturdy hatch.

Charlotte: Go down through the shop, get behind it, attack body.

If Charlotte can go that way: +1.
Otherwise, we should stick to my idea

Claire gets a second shot off at the serpent's tail. You hear it squeal below, so she must have hit. You hear the staircase below creaking but nothing strikes the hatch.

Charlotte streaks off to the west into the shop's attic and down the stairs.

--

You look over at Claire, who has an arrow nocked but isn't firing. She sees you looking at her, and she nods toward the middle of the floor and goes back to watching outside.

You, Claire, and Pearl are in the 2nd floor of the guard tower. The white serpent is inside the 1st floor. Very narrow stairs lead up and down, but a sturdy hatch blocks both exits. An open broken doorway leads west into the shop building. You and Pearl are guarding the hatch, Claire at the arrow slit. Charlotte is probably outside.

Everyone except Charlotte is covered in dried blood, and Pearl is also grimy with coal dust.

When Charlotte gets within range, open the hatch. We don't want it turning around prematurely.
