You thrust your torch (you left your spear outside) under the armoire and the centipede squeals and lets go, slipping through a gap in the floorboards. You check to make sure you didn't light anything on fire.
You turn to the door to head into the central upstairs room and through the now-open door to the East room.
It's sectioned off with remnants of curtains and a painted wooden folding screen. In the front half is a table, three small chairs facing one large sturdy chair across the table, and some shelves with bundles and books. Behind the screen you see the roof has fallen in on a bed, armoire, and trunk - ruining everything.
On the wall is a portrait of an old woman. Her skin is drawn and translucent, stretched over sinewy flesh. She has tiny veins visible in her stern face, her wiry steel hair tied up behind her head. In the portrait she's sitting in the large chair with her hand outstretched over a green crystal ball on the table.
The wind howls outside and buffets the house. The room is lurid with the light from the burning barn coming in through the cracks and gaps in the walls. Your torch dances in the breeze and shadows leap about the room.
