Random teleports and you : Chapter 1, verse 1 : Don't.

I have a question about skills for casters. As of late I have taken to turning everything but spellcasting and the specific skill off and focusing said specific skill so with a conjurer 33% goes to spellcasting and 66% goes to conjuration. Should I just be training the specific skill to a certain level or what? Also at what point should I start training other stuff like dodge or what have you.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

Generally:

- If you want more success or power in a specific spell, train the spell schools
- If you want more spell slots, train spellcasting
- If you don't particularly want either, train dodging/fighting/whatever else you want

Although after a while you might as well get a few levels in dodging, fighting and spellcasting since the XP investment for the first few levels of them is so small.

Okay that seems like a good guide to follow. Thank you for the tips

My most ridiculous death so far: I had just started following Nemelex, I'm just outside the Temple, and Nemelex just gifted me my first deck. Card #2 - Wrath. A bunch of berserk grizzly bears and a berserk stone giant appear.

Same way I got into the mess - random teleport  8)

10 runes so far, Pandemonium nearly managed to drive me to suicide - actual physical suicide, that is. I have high latency as it is, trudging through the endless halls with the 4 Pan Lord runes and only the minor one left does not help anything. Not to mention I'm ill, so I have to pause every 30 secs to blow my nose. God damn post-endgame.

edit : Also if anyone dares to win with Zin until tomorrow I'll be so mad.

I'm absolutely not going to join the tournament, but I will leave this tidbit of advice for any intermediate players here: don't just try to pick strong class/race combos to win with. Spend some time looking at obscure combos with low high scores (they're usually low for a reason), and try those out. The last tournament I did I had 2-3 "serious" runs, and the rest of the time was spent combo-sniping. I improved my skills much more by playing god-awful combos that no one in their right mind would chose than by playing the "safe" ones that would let me cruise along to the mid-game.

So, I'm standing on top of my stash quaff-IDing potions and stumble upon a Potion of Mutation.

It gives me Blink. That was lucky.

EDIT:
Also, walking into the Orcish Mines as an Apostle of Beogh is insane. Forget getting surrounded. I drop down a level and immediately gain lots of allies.

Welp, today I learned that Water Elementals can keep you from reading scrolls or casting spells. Apparently it's easy to break by moving away from the elemental, but I also happened to be in a net. I suppose a death where I learn something is better than YASD, though I still should have just run the hell away instead of being drunk on poison arrow abuse.

If there is a beginner-level team that needs an extra person, I'd like to join. I don't know how much time I'll be able to devote to it though, so if anyone else would like to fill up the spots, feel free to before me. I got to the Lair once, but it was a year or so ago, so I definitely belong on the lowest level team there is xD

Welcome to the Bay12 Nobles team. For those who joined after we filled the other teams so skill matter not. Hope you have a fun time though do note that it takes a while for the tournament page to update so it could take a while to show up on the team.

I'm easily strong enough to survive the Abyss, and my constriction (playing a Naga) should somewhat counteract the annoying possibility of blinking my enemies to safety.
It won't, I think. Constrict doesn't prevent any TP. That's something I learnt in the Snake Pit recently, with those Nagas and Guardian Serpents :D

Why you won't let me win Crawl ;_;

Seriously though, having no rMut and conservation are awful. Same with heal wound wands. And probably could have survived bit longer if i had killed wrath moth on the previous floor.
