I have a character currently on the server, but the lag is really killing the fun for me. It takes literally 2 times as long to play a game.

Is it me, or have players become a LOT better at playing crawl? I see a lot more wins on the scoreboard and higher level characters in the games currently being played.

Covenant - I don't need rMut, I got Zin  After thinking a bit about my situation, I realised two things. First, using a GDA will be a very minor bump in AC if at all, and  it has nearly 50% more evasion penalty, so my spells are quite liable to taking a dive. On the other hand if I stick with plate, I can get cBlink up relatively easily. And second - I don't have any shoes :| I've spent the entire game shoeless. How awkward.

And Antioch - yeah it really does seem like people in general are getting better at crawl. It'd be interesting to compare total win percentage over the years, if anyone has the data. And the lag does indeed make me wish I was playing offline. But it's fun meeting other people's ghosts and comparing yourself to others.

CLAN is pretty easy on the lag.

Just got a pretty good setup of offensive stuff for my TeGl:
+6,+6 Bardiche (distort)
+0,+8 ring of slaying
EV+3,Dex+4,Dam+5 randart ring

I feel pretty frail with my AC/EV of 12/24, so I'm funneling all my XP into polearms and dodging for now. Makhleb's summons have helped a bunch, even if I had a couple of hostile nexoceqs (invocations at 3.0) in Orc.

Congratulations on the win. Were there any close calls?

Yeah, it's been a while since I've done extended and I played sloppily.  I failed to kill Cerebov several times (MP issues) and ended up just snatching his rune and running.

Also I never found cBlink, which was kindof annoying because I really like it

So... I died with the orb, on dungeon floor 5...
To be fair I deserved to die, at some point my brain stoped functionning and I abandonned my god for no reason, picked another one, abandonner him too, then repicked first one, abandonned him again and picked a third one. Zot 5 for the first time with 2 penances on my head might have been one of the most frightfull experience of my life x)

Also, is it possible that somebody stumbles on my lvl 26 ghost on D:5 ?

@Aelig: I imagine you cursed quite a bit just now. I know it can be pretty infuriating to lose a very lategame character in a roguelike.

Spectated your game after I noticed you entered Zot5. Was quite surprised to see a Death Knight of Trog, why'd you switch gods?

I can confirm that somebody can run into that ghost, a buddy of mine did the same thing with a lvl27 DEFE on D:7. I think it killed him the very next game, or at least a game shortly thereafter.

For myself, I had YASD with the Orc Messiah, so now I'm rolling a bog-standard DEFE just because I'd like to get a win in this tourney. Pretty good luck so far, Labyrinth in Lair gave me some nice spellbooks (particularly in the Translocations school,) a staff of poison and boots of stealth, a pair of Beneficial Mutation potions found later gave me slow metabolism and increased MR, and there's a treasure portal that can be mine for the low low cost of 2 cure mutation potions. Hopefully Vehumet gets off his ass though, the only spell worth taking so far has been Poison Cloud (though to be fair, I do love me some Poison Cloud.)

I switched because after my 3rd rune I felt strong and wanted to tackle some extended (I had already done the slime pit), but I had no idea that crypt was so hard and could not get piety with any god, so as I was about to play pietyless for the endgame I figured Trog would be best. But I was afraid to berserk because of the penance anyway... So I just piled up mistakes.

Also I did not curse I think I will remember it as one similar thing that happened to me in nethack (although I have beaten nethack). It makes some nice stories.
