You could probably win (the majority of its attacks would just bounce off your armour), but there's no rush.  If you could get a demon whip or an eveningstar (and you can usually find one when you explore Vaults) that would make you a lot stronger.

Also I just got the Slimy Rune with my character, TRJ is pretty easy to kill if you have storm spells.

e: I also found an Amulet of Resist Mutation in the vaults, how fortunate.

So I decided, anfter finishing the snake Pit, to visit that famous Lernaean hydra.
She hit me for 4 HP, and I hit her 4 times to kill her.
I feel like I wasted that Wand Of Hasting charge ... :/

Anyway, I got 2 runes (and cleaned Elven Hall) and am lvl19. It's my best run so far.

Good to see the Blacksmiths are doing well, I have a similar character, except I might not be able to get the "easy" rune at Shoals because it's garded by Mennas and I'm a DsCK, so it's basically the ultimate counter to me...

With rCorrosion and rMut Slime isn't really that bad for a high lvl character. That said DK's minions might not fare as well.
Does anyone know how tough Abyss really is? It gets bunched up into "extended" but sometimes I come across people who say Abyss&Rune are quite doable for a +20lvl character. Is it?

Note to future self: Do not test unidentified wands on a nearly dead hydra hoping it would be a standard damaging wand.

It will be the wand of polymorph.

I now have a storm dragon guarding the entrance to lair.

Damn I've got a +14 randart platemail, 13 scrolls of enchant armour, a GDA in a shop for 3.5K gold and absolutely no elemental or magic resistance at all. Why must things always be hard :|

Oh wow, I just realised why things felt so much different from my last GrGl of Zin run. Last time I focused purely on heavy armour, melee and invocations, throwing spellcasting into the mix right at the start of extended.

This time I went for a hybrid build with spellcasting thrown in since mid-game, however the problem is while I have pretty great AC, my HP is really low, and I only have a single pip of rF and rC - and I can't really afford this on a melee gargoyle.

Usually this wouldn't be a problem, since I could just put on a GDA, but if I do that now, I lose all the experience I've put into Spellcasting and Charms - and it's not a neglectable amount. Not to mention my other skills are also lower than they'd be if I was entirely melee focused. I should probably just man up, train all the Charms I can to get at least the minor buffs castable in GDA and go clear Zot, but I'm not sure how V:5 would handle. When I'm using Zin V:5 is usually "go down, yell at heathens, things die", but my invocations are also lower [and it feels like Zin has taken some nerfs, since with 20 inv things are getting confused/salterized less often, but this might be bias].

I've cleared basically everything except Zot, Slime, The Crypt and extended. I have two paths I could take :

- Put on two rings of elemental resistance, and roll with rF++ rC++, 60 AC, take the manual of dodging I have stashed in V:5 and go for armour/evasion combo.

- Slap on a GDA, and go for pure armour/spellcasting/invocations run. This will let me go rF++, rC++ and ring of Wizardry, and I'll have like 2 AC more. However, this will also let me always have three pips in the necessary resistance for each hell, whereas I won't be able to with option 1. I won't have any dodging, though - however dodging is a -2 apt for Gargoyles anyway, after my manual runs out.

I'm more tempted to go with option 2, because it's more familiar to me - I already 15-runed a dude like this, and because I really value resistances on Gargoyles. On the other hand I don't have a lot of experience with dodging in extended and I'm not sure how it compares to an extra pip of resistances.

I still have Crypt and Slime to do, so that may get me some nice resistance rings, but I'm saving Crypt for a brief flirt with TSO to get a Holy Great Mace. I could jump into slime at anytime, though.

During Zot & Extended (hell and pandemiun ?), will you face more unavoidable spells or more dangerous dodgeable missiles ?
If you put your GDA now, what are your failure rates on important spells ?

Anyway, Gargoyles = -20%HP, and effectively -33% from usual pure armor/AC characters (who have +20%), so ...
I mean, I love resistances on them and dudging is too much "if you're unlucky, you won't dodge anything".

I decided to escape with the orb and 6 runes - I was getting sortof tired of my character.  Also I've realized I prefer Sif to Vehumet for the extended endgame.

IMO the biggest danger in Slime is getting paralyzed by giant eyeballs. Sure, you could wear stasis, but that prevents haste/berserk and blink/telport and opens you up to a whole load of other threats that would otherwise be easy to deal with.
