Sorry, I did mean to answer them.
I have two main concerns. Firstly, what to spend my next XP on. Obviously, with all this intelligence, it's worth picking up some more magic. I can't decide which schools to train up though; it feels as though I have a lot of 'pretty good' options, but not one that's leaping out at me as optimal. I don't have as much experience with casters as fighter-types, so perhaps I'm missing some vital considerations.
It mostly depends on what spells you have available. The low level ones you should not hesitate to get if you can:
- Repel missiles
- Blink
- Apportation
- Summon Butterflies
- Swiftness
- Flight (maybe? It's not really essential but I sortof like it)
The kinda high level one that you should definitely get as soon as you can because it makes your character 50% better:
- Haste (I'd probably buy the cheapest haste book you can to start with)
Some cool higher level spells that may be worth shooting for at some point:
- Death's Door
- Borgnor's
- Controlled Blink
So probably get haste as soon as possible then either the necromancy or translocation ones.
The second is, what with the constant reworks of the Armor and EV system (now instead of EV penalty there's an encumbrance rating, apparently), I have no idea beyond the broad strokes of how the tradeoffs actually work. I'm aiming for a hybrid style of play, but I don't know how to calculate the numbers. I recently switched from the Steam to the Fire Dragon armour, but I'm unsure if I have enough armour skill (or dodging skill?) for that to be the right call. I've tried scouring the wiki, but half the pages seem to refer to out of date versions, and I had enough trouble understanding the maths of it before they changed everything.
I don't think anything's actually changed. FDA is pretty good as long as it's not preventing you from casting spells. If you want more spell success (which you might if you're going for haste, change to MDA.
