So, no win for me this tourney :(. I have been way too distracted with work, hopefully next time things will be a bit calmer. Actually no, hopefully next time there will be a new version of DF out and I will have no time for Crawl. Anyway, nice work everyone who put wins together this time round. See you all around <cheers>

Man, I really overestimated my free time this tournament. It didn't help that I played on crawl s-z again - it's incredible for spectating people [78291!!!!!], but really bad for playing from Europe. Going on Lantea next time - I really couldn't force myself to actually play since it's so much slower and more painful than offline tiles.

Had great fun watching other people play, though - and hey, we're 22nd right now, with the Blacksmiths in 36th, the Nobles at 54th and the Miners at 61th from a good 109 teams.

Also Leafsnail is at 57th and I'm at 138th from like 1500 people, so that's pretty awesome! Although I probably should've just stopped after the win and enjoy my 50% winrate. Oh well.

All in all had a blast, mostly by not playing, though :D Really need to try a better server next time, I could've played like 10 more serious games, I just didn't have the stamina to start them.

Good luck to everyone still finishing their runs!

Yeah, if Crawl wants to be all holier than thou about tiles they shouldn't have made the tiles version so good.  Mouse support, onscreen inventory, WYSIWYG tiles, I can't bring myself to play ascii with everything tiles gives me.

You've been practicing telling visual objects apart your entire life :3

In every other game, from Nethack to Angband to DoomRL to DF to whatever, I prefer ASCII, but Crawl's tile mode is just so damn good.

Personally, I can't imagine playing Tiles - perhaps I'm just stubborn, but the idea of trying to remember that this particular sprite is a Centaur Captain, and this one is a Yaktaur, and that one is an Orc Knight but careful, that other one is Roka; it just seems a tall order for me. That said, I by no means think there's any superiority or such in playing the ASCII version. It's just a matter of preference.

Visually picking a yellow centaur out from a herd of brown centaurs is more difficult than picking a yellow c out of a bunch of brown c's? And on top of that, not confusing it with the orange yaktaur captain c, or the dark red regular yaktaur. Plus, the uniques all have unique sprites, so you're hardly in danger of mistaking them for a common monster.

For myself, it's not that aspect of the sprite distinguishing that makes me love Tiles more; it's the fact that the weapons the monsters wield show up on the paper doll! I can tell at a glance whether any of the orcs rushing toward me is wielding a polearm, or a ranged weapon, or if any of their weapons are magic. Heck, the other thread just had a little PSA about checking what sort of weapon the Ogre has; in tiles it's painfully obvious.

Don't get me wrong, in many games I play the ASCII, but the Tiles of DC:SS really are best in class.

With the tournament over here are the final standings for everyone from Bay12 as they stand. It was a fun time though personally I need to pace myself better as by the end I was basically burnt out. Next time I think I will take it more slowly and try for more wins. Also the player standings included people without clans and ties shared. While I can't do anything about the ties sharing I will probably go and see about remove the non-clan people and seeing how we stand up in that case.

So it seems I accidentally put my canteen in my wheelbarrow and didn't notice... and then I got really thirsty... so right before going to sleep I go to take a swig from my canteen and... end up snorting a line of low-grade meth.

I'm gonna pretend that ties don't share and I managed to make the top 200 :P

I know what you mean about pacing poorly though, hopefully I do better next time. Mostly I was too focused on rushing and getting a win, which resulted in several YASDs due to the typical "well I'll just clear Lair before bed" kind of mentality.

You did, the first tie is at 349 and its not the bad kind of tie sharing. When you share a tie the people next have a lower number. For example after the 4 people at 349 the next person is placed at 353. I just personally don't like sharing at all and if you got there first you that should be what breaks ties.

As a euroguy, CLN had very little lag. Do try it if you want to play online. Was a fun tourney. Hope to see as many guys in the next one as well.

I'm pretty happy with my games. Got most of my guys to lair-abouts before dying to whatever, which is better than I expected. I dare say it was time pressure that blew me up in the end. My DsWz was going really strong, but slowly. Herp derp "I'll just blast through tomb with my rN+++ and Dispel Undead to get a fast rune". Splat. Then I rolled a MiBe on the last day to try for a speedy win. The usual MiBe hubris led me to Shoals5 a bit too early and got me cornered.
This tourney was also the first time that I spent any time in the abyss. Fun place. After splatting a few guys there I now have an idea of how to survive there.

But still, most chars reached lair-abouts and top three were well over 100,000 score. Can't complain.

Cool, thank you!
Do you know any services that track kills on webtiles? I'm playing on CLN and just curious about sum of my deaths and who was killed by my ghosts.

I'm not sure if there's a better source for data, but here's a little something I've got bookmarked with my online char:

Here's your personal page that shows your recent games, and some species/background statistics:

Here's ghostkills (yours has killed two):

Here's all of your morgue files:

Incidentally, are the ghostkills across all ghosts of my player, or just the ghost with the most kills?
