I would suggest just waiting around, Sil has a plan and is not just going to throw your character away. Roleplay your leaving if you feel that is your only option. If you want more options I have thought of a few that I believe would be acceptable to your character's personality. These would give your character a reason to stick around for a longer period of time instead of immediately leaving.

In an attempt to change the conversation into something else, does anyone have any questions for me about my character? Or perhaps of the events that have taken place before?

He's said very little because most of what's been said just confused him and because he's already said more today then he has in months.

Speaking is a foreign concept to somebody who spent his entire life alone with nobody to talk to. His life until now has been very black and white. Live or Die.

I intentionally left him fairly blank to allow events to develop him, everyone in the room has been quiet and behaved so he's mirroring them and leaving without a fuss. The other options all end in a fight.

What other options?

In order from what I deem the best course of action.

From what I understand he has a childlike personality. Things would entertain him easily. The chance to watch two unicorns putting on a big light show, I would imagine, would intrigue many. Especially since Sam has gotten a chance to see what Aurora can do. Everyone else, I assume, is going to watch this battle unfold. It is something interesting to watch.

You could have him be confused as to what is going on. Maybe he was too busy looking at the jewels so and so had or the shiny chandelier.

Maybe he doesn't understand that he is suppose to leave now. Nobody else has left, where did he get it in his mind that he had to leave now? He follows the crowed and therefore will wait around with everyone else until those not chosen start to leave/are dismissed. ((Even then you could argue he doesn't understand the concept of being dismissed))

Maybe all these new sights and sounds are getting to him, hes feeling sick. Everything in the room is spinning because he just doesn't understand whats going on and then *Barf*

Maybe he misheard the ring and didn't realize that those chosen were the ones picked. Maybe he thinks he made such a good plea that the ones chosen were actually the ones who were supposed to leave the room. It would be doubly easy for someone with little experience in these kinds of situations to become confused and misunderstand what is going on without someone translating the meaning of the rings words to him.

(( Kinda all falls apart at the fight. He's actively working to restrain his violent side. Watching a fight isn't the best way to avoid violence. ))

Then perhaps I do not have a good understanding of what your character is like. I suggest you wait for Sil then

I'm expecting scales to stop him leaving anyway. I have a pretty good idea where this is going.

He clearly had a plan for me and I doubt he's the type to give up easily.

Well, Patrick, I believe you are acting out of frustration with me. I'm sorry, I meant for the rings dismissal of Sam to be a slight plot twist. I did not mean to back you into a corner.

That said, you are imagining the corner you're backed into. If Sam's only choices truly are fight or flight, then you've written yourself into a corner, or are limiting your own roleplaying skills. I suggest you adjust Sam accordingly, so that he is not put between a rock and a hard place every time things don't go his way.

Just do what you think Sam would do, something that doesn't involve random homicide, preferably. If you still wish for Sam to return to the forest, I'll act accordingly.

I meant for the rings dismissal of Sam to be a slight plot twist.

Out of curiosity, what did you expect him to do? Sam's a berserker. Did you really expect him to passively accept the rejection and then politely sit and wait while a unicorn battle duel happens in front of him?

Related, how do you want to resolve this duel between Aurora and Autumn? Having having spent two weeks sitting in a waiting room and a week of only one of us at a time talking to the ring, I seriously doubt anyone really wants to wait around for another week not getting to play because they're watching me fight an npc.

Patrick: I propose that Sam stay to watch the duel then go berserk and attack us both. If we're going to play this game, let's have fun with it.  Brownie points if all the super-powerful unicorn mages in the room are obligated by honor to not stop Sam because that would be interfering with a sacred duel.

The had a plan comment was directed at scales btw not you Silcugar. I've gotta start labeling these things. I'm not frustrated with anyone but myself right now.

The entire basis for same puts him in this position I can't really adjust it without altering a huge portion of his background to have it make sense. I left him the way he is so the games events could decide how he develops.

If Sam interferes then he will never be accepted, a pioneer who can't behave himself is no use.

I kind of expected him to be angry/sad and argue/sulk in turn, which would lead to the next event I have planned. I knew Patrick wouldn't have his character commit suicide by attacking the ring. If he did attack, I have a plan for that, too.

I don't expect anyone to sit and watch your duel. That would be silly. You'll see in the upcoming post.

Actually before I thought better of it and edited my initial action was to attack the ring.

You can do that, if you want. But you should expect some punishment character development a lesson in temperance... actually, pick one of those.

Naw I decided in the end it's more fitting for him to just walk away.

Besides I have a pretty fair idea whats about to go down and I have my reaction all worked out.

Ok... I'm gonna make an exception in this case because turning the kids head into pulp is a horrible idea even if it is what Sam should do.

Alright, Patrick, you might have to tone down homicidal tenancies. If I can't trust your character to act at least a little bit rationally, than how can you expect me to interact with you?

If the first choice that comes to mind when refused a position is 'Attack, kill, murder' and your first choice that comes to mind when confronted by a curious child is 'Sam should fucking kill this innocent child' than we're gonna have a problem. Because these choices remind me of 'Stupid Evil' characters, or 'Chaotic Stupid' characters, that just end up fucking up the game for everyone else.

I accepted a character that "lacks the pure killer instincts of his species" and is pretty much the equivalent of that big guy from Of Mice and Men, but more tortured and skeptical.
