Several facilities, fortresses or robots, consisting of unique parts (for robots, for example, those would be legs, arms, shoulder cannons, head, internal computer, orbital support and so on). Each part is manned by a player, a-la Artemis. They give independent orders (the leg-player states where to move, cannon-player states what to load and when to fire, computer calculates the needed trajectory for correct hit, head turns to change angle of sight and switches between normal sight, thermal, monochrome (to conserve energy) and so on, support decides when to do an orbital strike, where to airdrop stuff (it will arrive in several turns, so they must coordinate the actions with the robot) and scouting terrain independetly of the head, etc.; several players may occupy several seats simulatenously, though to a reasonable degree (one player cannot hog the whole robot)). The goal is to annihilate the opposing force (obviously, the given example is greatly simplified). Some players may be traitors trying to sabotage their team.

Do you think this would work?

I'd have one player as both legs. Unless you're going for slapstick.

I can see:

one player controlling both legs
one player controls the torso and the head (including target acquisition/locking system)
one player controls the hands

Maybe one controls each hand.

Maybe one controls each hand.

Each hand could be different wep systems.

Left=sheild
right=bazzoka/rifle/sword/etc

yeah it could work but how would the "targeting" work?

Legs: Where you go.
Torso: Facing.
Right Arm: Weapon 1.
Left Arm: Weapon 2.
Head: Targeting computer.

Each weapon has a range. Legs makes sure you're in range.

Weapons also have an arc of fire - you can't shoot behind you or chainsaw someone on the other side. Consider a weapon's arc to be 90 degrees from front to side for melee, or 180 degrees ahead for ranged. Torso makes sure you're facing optimally.

Weapons need to fire, but they also have a warm-up period. You can overload a weapon to fire stronger with a chance of damaging your systems. Arm decides when to shoot.

Head controls the targeting computer. This gives a bonus to targets "marked" by the Head. Of course the Arms don't need to shoot at those, but they lose the bonus.

//

Each player could also have control over some subsystem. Fire extinguisher, shields, etc. Will you put out the fire or move the Legs?

This would be hilarious to play live with secretly declared actions and simultaneous reveal.
"Oh no you targeted the killbot? You were supposed to target the bridge!"
"Don't you sasstalk Head. Head don't need no sasstalk from some Left Arm right now."

I was thinking for all the D&D buffs here; is there an interest in playing a game based off the Lords of Waterdeep board game? It doesn't have to be exactly waterdeep, but I want to know if there's an interest in something highly political, intrigue-driven, with high RP, rather than combat focused. In fact, it doesn't strictly need to be D&D based, but I'd love to play something like that!

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Sounds potentially neat. And potentially horrible.

I'd like to join another low level d&d pbp game, although I don't know if that's an answer.

Well, ever since I played the board game with my mom (who's a very big board game enthusiast), I've always wanted to play a similar campaign, but since I suck utterly at planning things(and since something like this requires a LOT of careful planning to pull off), I've been very hesitant to GM it. Hmmm, maybe this is something Lord Shonus could do after he finally wraps up his current campaign...
