They can hold up to 24 players, it's definitely not Valve's servers that are the problem so much that custom games are all hosted on the lobby host's computer (except for the valve-made ones and any others in the future that reach sufficient popularity).

And yeah, there are definitely custom games. I'm making one! It's fancier than anything I've done in Dwarf Fortress already (since Dota 2's tools are fancier than anything that exists for DF), so I'm happy with that.

CDEC is absolutely legendary and I would've been happy no matter who won the finals.

Aui2000 just got kicked from EG.

How does that even work. Win 1.6 million and the biggest prize in esports. Get kicked a week later.

I can only imagine that they kicked him in some strange attempt to prevent him from getting his share of the prize money, which they may be using to buy arteezy...

Speculation only of course but the dota2 scene is surprisingly volatile after the TI's I find.

It is complete bullshit. They're saying they did it so he has time to find a new team before the rosters are locked but honestly I think if someone made you a millionaire, you should give them a little respect and not backstab them instantly.

Considering, aside from making them a millionaire that one time, AUI2000 is a pretty major player in the dota2 scene and has been for a very long time.  Here's hoping he finds a good team to join, but I can't really think of any currently looking for people that he'd do well in.

The dota scene tends to be most volatile after major tourneys, not just TI

although it is pretty harsh to see him being one of the first big players being officially kicked after TI you have to admit that this is a better move than waiting to see if the thing with RTZ would work and letting Aui on the bench not sure if he had to find a new team or not. The time window to transfer isn't really that big and he probably want to do some tryouts, not land on the first team.

6.85 patch is now live, just in time for the next majors.

As a dirty, awful techies picker, I like them techies changes. Obnoxious spread out minefields are now not a completely stupid option!

So curiosity got the best of me and I tried playing Dota 2. Seems neat. Anyone here I could play with? Seems like Dota would be more fun with friends than random pubbers.

Prooobably? There's like two or three different B12 dota steam groups, iirc, heh. Plenty of folks play.

I'd offer to hop on at some point so we could suck together, but your timezone is seven hours behind mine and I can't play this weekend.

There are a number of other B12ers, as Frumple pointed out. No idea who they are other than Putnam, who's probably in a high skill bracket anyway.

Trying to make a custom voicepack for the kill spree announcer. Got the sound files to use. Can't seem to get the game to use them.

I believe Valve removed all legit ways to enable mods in game for some batshit reason. Used to be able to use -enable_addons, and after they removed that you could specify it with something like -enable_addons "filename". Now there's nothing, only the quasi-allowed way where you force the mod to load but that's super sketchy.
