I went basically as cheesy as I could get, aquila->treads->MoM->BKB->MKB. I could have gotten BoT by the end, but I was greedy and went straight for the butterfly. Probably should have gotten the BoT.

The worst part is that that would probably work at my MMR.

Holy crap. Timbersaw's Aghs upgrade is so bonkers. It makes him just insanely powerful.

It's so much damage than even a radiance + heart naga's illusions die in one sweep. Not even one second do they last against Aghs Timbersaw.

Also I think it goes through BKB now. Lina's aghs ult which does pure damage goes through bkb. Chakram is also pure damage, so it should go through as well.

Pure damage doesn't naturally go through BKB, and Chakram doesn't either. (BKB also blocks the slow.)

Despite that, it is still ridiculously powerful. The final match of Vici Gaming vs EG in the grand finals of ESL One New York featured IceIceIce going bananas with Timbersaw and his scepter upgrade. One of the best performances on the hero by one of the best players of the hero.

Not so fast, there. There are 3 types of damage now, and none of them are directly related to spell immunity anymore. Spell immunity is a separate property of damage now.

Basically:

1. Stuff what's reduced by armor
2. Stuff what's reduced by magic resistance
3. Stuff what's not reduced by either

And then any one of those can go through spell immunity.

Chakram doesn't. Lina's aghs happens to make Laguna Blade pure damage that goes through spell immunity. Tinker's old march would now be magic damage that goes through spell immunity, but now it doesn't go through spell immunity.

Honestly, it was less confusing before when they used the Warcraft 3 damage type, and magic damage that went through magic immunity was called Universal, and pure damage that went through magic immunity was HP Removal. Composite damage can stay dead though, nobody benefited from it that couldn't be better served by purely physical or magical damage instead.

HP Removal wasn't pure damage that went through magic immunity, it didn't have any of the effects of damage at all, such as stopping health pots/clarities/bottle, proccing Spectre's damage reflect or putting Blink Dagger on cooldown.

How is this more confusing? It's three damage types. Some spells go through spell immunity.

As a new'ish player, I second that it's easier in 6.82. Now you can just look at the ability decryption saying whether it pierces magic immunity or not and it's easy to see whether you need more armor or more MR in order to reduce damage from an ability. I had no clue whether HP removal could be reduced, or universal and composite for that matter. I hadn't even heard of universal damage until today :P

Its been pure damage for a very long time. I can't even remember when they called it universal. Personally I prefer pure, because it expresses that it deals 100% of damage much better then the word universal (in my opinion at least).
Composite was just rather confusing, and not really very distinct. Removing it makes the game simpler without actually removing any of the complexity, a good chance in my opinion.
HP removal can't be reduced, it simply removes HP. Note that it isn't *actually* damage in the same way that things from other attacks are, because it avoids triggering tons of things that are triggered by damage (eg. blademail, nyx's carpace spikes, breaking potions).

It's worth noting that now hp removal is almost nonexistant. The damage cost phoenix and the like do to themselves is hp removal, and I'm pretty sure that's it (Counting undying's soul rip as a cost). Heartstopper aura is negative regeneration. The only skill that actually inflicts hp removal as an effect on someone else is Terrorbad's r.

That's how that sort of damage is coded in the original DotA, and the reason that you could use a Salve while running away from Bloodseeker. There's no other way in that engine to deal damage through magic immunity that ignores both armor and magic resistance. (Universal damage takes magic resistance into account, and Pure damage is blocked by magic immunity.)

I just think it's kind of silly to call two different spells 'Pure Damage' but only allow one of them to ignore BKB. Now instead of five damage types* (physical, magical, universal, pure, hp removal) we have physical, magical, magical that ignores BKB, pure, pure that ignores BKB, and then also HP removal for usage costs and Sunder. I think it's just a little unnecessary, and they could have fixed it by actually labeling spells with their damage types properly. Actually listing Universal spells as Universal instead of just Magical would have gone a long way. The confusion before, I think, was mostly from random magic-damage-labeled spells going through BKB, or composite damage being weird and terrible.

*ignoring composite because nobody likes it and it's a good thing they removed it.

I liked universal damage doom better :v

Doom is still pretty good tho, but I'm playing undying a lot more now.

It's much easier now if you think of damage as a separate thing from magic immunity. Or better yet, magic immunity as a separate thing from resists of any kind.

Resists reduce their corresponding damage types while doing nothing for pure. Magic immunity blocks all damage/effects unless the spell has the property of ignoring magic immunity.

I bought my first aghs on Treant Protector today, and boy that became the most fun I've had in a long time. There's something weirdly satisfying about turning the entire enemy jungle into a trippy green disco floor.
