It's much, much harder to pull off, and doesn't work by the rune cliffs anymore.

You're better off not playing Rubick unless you have a very good game sense and know what everyone's skills do.  He's very much dependent on stealing the right spells.

assassinate is a fun one, mostly because Sniper himself is squishy as hell

ooh, if you're really good and the enemy decides to go with a techies wombo combo skillset you could probably do one all by yourself by placing mines and stealing hook or lasso or whatever

God damn do I hate this matchmaking. Every god damn match is a gamble, will I get smurfs or players twice my level, or will I get someone playing his first match after the tutorial. It's especially bad when I'm trying to do the champ challenge thing and get a streak of total idiots that you just can't carry with the champ you have.

Or when out of the teams 7 kills you have 4, and 2 assists. The rest is all on Lion while the other three have a couple of deaths not much else :I

My matchmaking also continues to fluctuate from having amazingly close base-trading games to roflstomps.

What's the deal with Techies?  Are the bombs detectable?  What's the best way to counter?

They are, there's some items that help but generally knowing where he might place them and being careful around those places is good.

Also another shitty match that starts the same way as most. I do fine, get some kills and farm in, other lanes feed, I fail to do anything but die after the laning phase ends because hey, everybody on their team is fed :I

The bombs are detectable by true sight. Sentry wards in the area you're pushing can reveal them to you, but be wary that techies often puts mines on top of ramps or in juke spots that might be in fog even with true sight on the low ground or in the lane. A gem of true sight is a good way to make them useless, too. Be warned, though, the bombs explode when destroyed so you want a ranged hero to do the clearing. As far as the best hero counters, here's a list.

1. Zeus can spam his Lightning Bolt (which provides true sight and flying vision in the area around the bolt) to detect mines at medium range.

2. Anyone who can make illusions can easily clear the red lane mines and stasis traps by summoning illusions and walking them far in front of everyone else to set them off. Beware that they won't set off the green remote mines, which techies must activate manually.

3. Anyone with summons can do the same as illusions, but this is a little less reliable since the summons give gold and xp to techies when they die. Lone Druid's bear is good for tanking small amounts of mines and surviving, but is bad because it gives 300 gold to techies if it dies. Probably the best options are Invoker's forge spirits, Beastmaster's boars (the hawk gives a lot of gold but provides useful flying vision too) and any shitty creep dominated by Chen or Enchantress.

Don't try running into the mines with blade mail, technically the mines are the units doing the damage, not techies himself. So he won't take damage.

I'm usually not a feeder, so if any of you guys who are frustrated with feeders wants to party up, I'm down to play today.

I played a fair bit yesterday, midweek days are annoying for me, but there's a chance I'll be on later. Also, ranked matchmaking seems to be filled with even worse people then pub games. Like the kind of guy that feeds 17 kills and still puts a lot of energy crying on a microphone, like, jeez. So far 3 losses and 2 wins, I need to try and equalize that rate in the next 5 before I get rated, but 2 of those 3 losses were caused by some really horrid teamates, while the other loss was because of our team composition overall.

Eh, skill level is complicated here. I'm still matched up with people who don't get that taking Sand King's passive (which is pretty much exclusively for pushing the lane) at level 2 is a bad idea because I'm bad enough at positioning that I keep dying despite the lack of knowledge of other people.

People at 3k MMR will complain about being in the trench, too. Heck, I've seen it, it's pretty much the same except that people aren't completely bugnuts stupid about item and level builds and sometimes manage to get a coordinated gank together.

Smurfing isn't too much of a problem unless the smurf throws every other game intentionally; otherwise, the matchmaking will place them higher. Eventually, the throwing will probably get them into low prio a few times from reports, heh, but usually they're subtle enough; for example:

Captain America, who occasionally sends in games to be casted.

I just got complimented on my support play in a random pub, when I just started playing again 2 days ago *warm and fuzzy feels*

(I played like garbage in the late game but who cares I got FV a godlike streak)

So I won two games in a row, QoP is really really fun to play, the ganks are super nice too :D

Luna isn't bad either tbh, takes some getting used to what with the low range but she's pretty cool.

Then the third game is with Huskar and he's pretty damn strong too, especially if you are against someone who can't easily retaliate all the early game harass you can put out.

But of course, a three win streak would be too much, so we get two leavers 20 minutes into the match :I

I've had a 9 game winning streak before.

I'm currently on a 3 game winning streak.

Forced 50% is a myth, heh.

Thanks for the tips Barbarossa.

I been playing random and captain's draft exclusively but in ranked mode it takes ages to find games... what do people play ranked?

I've had a 9 game winning streak before.

I'm currently on a 3 game winning streak.

Forced 50% is a myth, heh.

System can't cope with your skills!  Seriously though, you musta been playing well to get that result...??

Everyone plays all pick ranked. Yuck.

Anyway, up to 4-game streak (6, as it turns out, if you don't count the 12-second everyone-abandoned game); played a Tinker game, got called "crazy" by the Lich on my team when she saw my standard process for farming (BoT in, shift-queue(blink to better position, march, soul ring, rearm), soul ring, march, shift-queue(blink to safer position, BoT out)). Standard stuff for Tinker players, I'd imagine (I may even be doing something wrong...), but in my bracket, I'm not sure if everyone knows about shift-queueing.

Not a very good game, though; I need to practice killing as Tinker more. I started using quickcast that game, so I was kind of off in some of my inputs, but the main problem is that I sometimes panic, which ain't good at all, as it makes me forget to laser or use an item or whatever.. Most of the game being won was probably more due to the 4-man going on in the other lanes as I split pushed everywhere than my split pushing itself.

I panic almost *all* the time.  Even hit the Windows key the other day.

Shift-queuing, I haven't used yet.  I'm sure there is a benefit to it, but I'm probably too old and slow to see it.  Is it better to shift-queue actions than click-spam until it happens?  I'm aware that stuff will proc in immediate succession, but does that translate to a noticeable advantage?  What kind of routines are best suited to shift-queuing?

Yeah, guess I should go back to all pick matches.
