Just had my favorite game of dota ever with Lucky and one of his friends.

I was queen of pain mid vs sniper.  I kind of picked her at random, only played her once and don't really know how she works.  He randomed ursa. 

I was up against sniper mid, just like last game, just like the game before that, just like every single pub game that ever was.

We ganked him five times before the first nightfall.

He disconnected.

And that's how you beat sniper.

Demoralizing an enemy until they give up is an effective strategy against hypercarries that would otherwise decimate you by the time late game comes around.

Been playing a few low level games with a friend recently, and Ability Draft when I'm not playing with him. I love how completely random everything can be; Got Crystal Maiden with Queen of Pain's Blink and Scream, Witch Doctor's Maledict, and Bat Rider's drag ult. Blink in, drag them to my teammates, turn around and Maledict, done. Had some trouble early game due to a Juggernaut who got Clinkz' Flaming Arrows, meaning he had nasty melee attack damage and a full 600 range, but luckily our Clinkz had Windwalk, Strafe, Essence Shift, and his own ultimate as a throwaway.

Ranged agility characters with Slark's Essence Shift are bullshit.

Very effective.  Sniper has a garbage early game, he can't do shit.  His damage is so low if it weren't for that insane animation he'd be unplayable, and since Dota isn't full of comeback mechanics like League is, early advantages are much harder to lose.  Add to that the horrible stats and the lack of escapes, and he's pretty much gankbait.

And with no flash farming abilities it's even worse.  Even if he'd stayed in the game he was fucked.  He was never going to be relevant that game.  But that's how you win pubs in general.  That's how I won like 90% of my nocturne games in League.  Find the weakest link and hammer it until it breaks.

Best game ever.  Sniper players fucking deserve it.

EDIT:  As for ability draft, it's fun sometimes.  Once I got a Lion with Ice Shard, Fatal Bonds, Midnight Pulse, and Black Hole.  Used Ice Shard to farm heroes with my lane partner (who had earth spike) early game, then got Aghs and blink dagger for giant black holes late game. 

And then another time I was distracted and ended up with garbage I don't even remember now.  Shrapnel, open wounds, nether strike (with no bash so it's just a shitty blink) and something else I don't even remember.  On Ursa.  Sad game.

Early on, before people started getting an idea of what abilities were useful on what (or overall), I had a Drow with a passive bash, Huskar's Berserker's Blood passive, Chemical Rage, and Phantom Lancer's image passive as a throwaway skill.

The results were about as bad as you think. (Warning, contains mature language.)

So I know this is a couple of days after you said this, but I read this post and it made me go watch some of Purge's ability draft games that he had recorded.

The amount of rage I am feeling from this video is startling me.

He had the best build in DotA lined up ready for him to choose, and he went with a weird Blink Strike punching things build.  If he had taken the Permanent invisibility at the very first (he had first draft) he could have waited until it was his turn again and picked up Aftershock and Mana Shield (Split Arrows would have been fine too) if he had just told his team that he wanted them.  If he had chosen those skills, every time he pressed Q or W or whatever would have toggled those skills would've sent off an Aftershock.

Aftershock does damage to anything nearby and stuns it.  He could have mini-stunned his enemies to death by pressing Q and being close.  My rage is infinite because of his futile punchings (also if he had taken permanent invisibility instead of Lina's passive, he could have been invisible and the enemies would have just died to being stunned to death).

EDIT:  I suppose he still walks away from the game as 27/5, but the amount of sheer frustration he could've inflicted on his enemies from dying stunlocked to an invisible Earthshaker still seems like a better build than the one he concocted.
