Werewolf turned into a lizard man, then disappeared
« on: October 07, 2013, 01:05:34 pm »

Well, subject. He's not on the unit screen, he had no time to reach the edge of the map, because I unpaused game for, like, 3 seconds. In these 3 seconds he bit one of my dwarves, was shot by another, turned into his "normal" form and then just vanished completely. He was heading right for the cage traps, so I'm a little disappointed.

Welcome to dwraf fortress.

Check combat reports to see if he fought after the transformation, he may be dead after being shot, because if a dwarf could shoot him while he was a werecreature, he probably could shot him while he transformed back.

He got shot, then he transformed, and this is the end of his combat reports. He's not on the Deceased list, neither he is caged (which I would expect based on the direction of his movement). The only things that could've happened is that he escaped the map, but I don't understand how he could manage to do it so quickly. The Case of a Disappearing Werewolf.

It may seem odd if that happened in 3 seconds, but it can be possible, depending on how many FPS was your mage running at that moment

The Case of a Disappearing Werewolf.

Ah, a mystery! It's up there with "The Case of the Missing XXsockXX", "The Case of the Inexplicably Rising !!Corpse!!", "The Case of the Mysterious Underground Structure", and of course, "The Case of the Hidden Fun Stuff".  :P

Is it possible that it simply ran away? Werecreatures turn to flee once full moon is over.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

It's The Case of a Teleporting Werewolf then.

2 things
-Either it indeed simply left your map
-Either it has ambusher levels (hunter or something) and it's sneaking around. (Ninja werewolves, fuck yeah.)

Also, werewolves. Which mod is that?

it's not a mod herpderp

I've heard that dodging actually functions as a sort of short-range teleport, which is how it can leave dwarfs in otherwise unreachable positions.  Maybe the marksdwarf forced him off the map faster than he could run?

Listen up: making a thing a ‼thing‼ doesn't make it more awesome or extreme.  It simply indicates the thing is on fire.  Get it right or look like a silly poser.

It's useful to keep a ‼torch‼ handy.

iirc, units cannot dodge off the map. They'd have to finish dodging before they could make the final move off the edge of the map. Otherwise, the edge of the map acts as an infinitely tall wall.

Also, werewolves. Which mod is that?

it's not a mod herpderp

I've never seen werewolves generated by the game: closest I've ever seen is werefoxes or werejackals

I saw one in legends, so they do happen, but they get drowned out by the variety of choices.
