A huge buff to Mega Beasts
« on: October 07, 2013, 05:05:15 am »

As of the current time Mega Beasts are very under powered when you think of what they should be. At the current time the don't  even have trap avoid, and can be contained with flimsy wooden cages. A group of badly trained dwarves with some decent equipment can easily take down a Mega Beast (aside from the Bronze Colossus). And if you have access to none of these there is always a cave in. Now while a Mega Beast can wreak havoc with a early fortress any well developed fortress can repel any of the four "Mega Beasts with ease, and given the requirements for a mega beast attack they will only ever show up to attack mature settlements.

Now imagine if Mega Beasts were turned into true civilisation destroying monsters, that appeared at your fortress and wreaked absolute havoc, a threat to even the most well defended fortress, on a level with HFS. Take for example The dragon, imagine if it's fiery breath could melt right through you constructions and buildings, turning them into steaming pools of magma. Their impossibly hard scales deflecting dozens of masterwork steel disks. And able to use its raw strength to break out of even the strongest of cages. Cave ins merely annoy it, tons of rock simply shattering over there iron hard flesh.  It would take every resource you could possibly muster and a small army to take it down. At the moment dragons are slightly annoying lizards, i believe they should be more like smaug in the hobbit, destroying an entire human town because it was there before annihilating the most developed dwarven stronghold in the entire world.

Obviously this goes for the other three Mega Beasts as well, i reckon it would lead to lots more fun.

Minotaurs, I'd say, need to carry weapon on them more often. It's ridiculous how they come barehanded.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Megabeasts really shouldn't be nearly as strong as the HFS, as megabeasts are unavoidable and have no reward associated with them, unlike the HFS.

That being said, i wouldn't mind a buff to megebeasts, but I still wanna be able to catch and tame dragons...

Yea fair point, but you should probably shouldn't be able to catch them with a wooden cage held together by pure force of will :P

The HFS' difficulty comes from being an endless legion that never stops.

Hydras are supposed to be able to use all of their heads to attack next version, so at least those will be stronger by an unknown amount.

All traps will be rewritten at some point in the future. After all, it's not just megabeasts that can be defeated to easily by traps.

Thats good because i lot of the time i abstain from using traps, they're just to over powered takes away a lot of the fun.

I would like to see the mega beasts beefed up, I was a little disapointed when in adventure mode I got my first dragon slaying quest and my companions slaughtered it, dragonslaying should be more... Fun

If life were like DF, Toady's strange mood would have produced an Artifact Game of Awesome that menaces with spikes of code ten years ago.
But it is not.
Instead, what we have is a single obsessive mason trying to carve Mt. Rushmore.

Yeah, I had to give up trying to catch some cool animals because I caught entire sieges instead.

Yeah it is sad when a dragon is taken out by 7 people wielding steak knives.

It was actually a pretty scary scene since some of their faces were melting off but they were still rushing the dragon.

Yeah any decently equipped dwarf army can make mincemeat of every mega beast except the bronze colossus.

In my experience rocs are the most pathetic of them all.

Extinction by elf adventurers in word gen. Every. Single. Time.

Yeah Rocs are basically dragons, but way squishier and no fire breath, so they are essentially useless.
