I started a fort that's at war with the elves, and finally got my first elven ambush. Very underwhelming.

They didn't bring any animals, though, which surprised me. I figured they'd be mounted. Is there a chance they'll bring mounts on a future ambush/vile force of nature, or should I just make peace with them as soon as I get a chance?

They will probably bring animals next time. Just generate more wealth.

Elves don't ever send "vile forces of nature", only ambushes. Their "sieges" are 6-10 ambush parties entering to map at same time, nearly always mounted. And no, don't make peace. Never make peace with elves.

Making peace with elves ? Why would you even do that ?

The only really good import of elves to your fort is tamed animals. (occasionally sun berry) They bring far more animals when they ambush.

Cage them, tame them, breed them, make something to separate the children and the adults at birth and tame the children. Voila, instant tamed animals.

Feel free to swap egg-layers to mammal-layers for a few years because they don't use your nest boxes.

150 years of war with the elves has left the narrow theater depopulated, impoverished, and brutalized. Automated death traps are the only option now.

This. Every fort i make is geared towards pissing off the elves. I have enough wood? Keep logging anyway. I always make crafts out of wood so I can cut more trees.

You lucky bastard. I never get war with Elves. I think there is a Elf out there who gets all his joy in life from sending me caravans to slaughter and then not declaring war.

The first elven ambush showed up in my 5th Spring, without animals. The 6th spring, they brought giant dingos, giant coyotes, giant hares, unicorns, horses, and giant thrips. (I have the giant template modded to add [PET_EXOTIC] [MOUNT_EXOTIC] and [TRAINABLE_WAR]). All went well and I am breeding up an army of giant dingos right now. Unfortunately though I was only able to capture one unicorn, and a male at that.

I haven't gotten any more elven ambushes since I captured the Princess. It's been 3 years now. Is this normal?
