I'm thinking that it would be nice to expand the tavern out into a castle.

It kind of is our center piece, I could see that working.

Sorry about being MIA the past two days, I ridiculously sick yesterday when I meant to play most of the year.  Couldn't sleep and I've been having troubles breathing recently.  I somehow keep forgetting to put the fort on my flash drive so I can play it at work, so an update will come later today.

Sorry for taking so long on this, didn't expect to get sick.

If you carve a slab (preferably out of slate), you can set it up on one side of a room with tables and chairs in neat and orderly rows, then turn the room into a "sculpture garden", using the slab.  "Give" the slab to the eldest kid and they'll "have parties" there, inviting all the other kids (and some adults with free time sometimes).  Viola: "School".

Journal of Karkov:

So in my dealings as leader, I've come to notice that there's a random lever sitting next to our southernmost wall.  When asked, someone told me that it was the "Floodgate Lever."  I, of course, asked them what the hell they were on about.  It appears that there were a bunch of floodgates that were stuffed in the river a couple of years ago, yet never linked up.  I'll have to see about doing something about it.

The Floodgates, and where they would flow to.

A giant olm has been scaring workers in the caverns, which I'm trying to seal off so these olms stop showing up in the first place!  I've sent Splint to deal wi- it's already dead?  Armok be damned, what is Splint made of?!

I was overseeing the expedition into the caverns when I overheard Grim and BlackFlyme talking to each other.  Apparently BlackFlyme was getting a little weirded out because he noticed that Highmax has been talking to his shield recently.

I'm not too sure how I'm supposed to respond to this.

OOC:  I'm going to start adding onto the tavern/future castle thing pretty soon, and get all the babies/children a safe place to stay.  I'm sort of expanding the caverns for any future ventures and slate mining.  90% of the caverns are slate.  God I love me some slate.  I can see what the floodgates were for when the place was passed on, if I didn't think it'd flood our fishing pier I'd go ahead and do it, might still do it later though.

Welp, migrants are still arriving this year.  We just got 21 of them, putting us at a total of 59 dwarfshumans running about.

EDIT:  While I'm still thinking about it, were there any dwarfings I needed to do?

Shouldn't be any. Pretty sure I tidied that up. And 21? I never got more than I think 8 or 9. Didn't think there were that many still considered entity members roaming around :\

Journal of Karkov:

Another roaming band of migrants have shown up to our little community today, raising our total number to fifty-nine.  I must say, it's become a little bit crowded now, seeing as how we still haven't finished the second addition to our housing complex from earlier.

I decided it would be easier, instead of building on top of what we've already created, to carve out the area underneath our already existing housing and make a sort of basement area down there.  Someone forgot to mention to me that there is actually a small lake beneath our original housing, I will have to find an area to create better apartments for us.

I was at my workstation as usual today, carving out slate boulders into workable rocks, someone rushed in to tell me that Highmax's wife has given birth!

A momentous occasion!  Someone throw a pa- wait, this is his second?  When did that happen?  Oh well, let's throw a party anyway!

_____________________________________________________________________________
OOC:  So the housing problem is definitely a thing, and making apartments above ground is going to take longer than a tantrum spiral would, and our dining room is only considered good.  Are we for or against building some rooms below ground?

You also have Highmaxsonner, but no one really cares about him.

Although, he does like two-handed swords.  And chickens.

Clearly he is bound for life as a chicken hat wearing, claymore swinging, mead guzzling champion.

We must be drawing on the non-historical population that civs have. Normally an extinct civ doesn't have any but we have it to make randomly generated bandits.

Good to see more little maniacs running around. Not sure what we can do about the migrants and housing though, the time it takes to make a house is a bit limiting compared to digging out a fort.
