From the journal of Proto Tunemanstrid:
1st Granite 195:
A great year has passed with Highmax as overseer, but today my year of interim rulership starts. Lets hope the fortress survives
The first task I ordered to the workers was to dump all the remains within the walls of the
fortress. To get this done in this year, I temporarily set The Spiked Revenge to inactive, as they are already legendary in the usage of maces and shields, and in Fighter. (I dorfed myself as the corporal of this squad, is that okay?).
I also planned on building an extra room, next to the one that is being constructed.

8th Granite
I designed plans for a tower on the southwestern side of the wall. I'm not sure if I should make it out of wood or out of stone, like the other towers. If we make it out of stone, we need to deconstruct part of the wall to build new ones...

I didn't have that much time, I'll continue tomorrow.
Squidgen is a legendary+5 waste collector. He has been the only worker who has been dumping the remains. If it were possible, I'd give him a wheelbarrow as garbage truck.

Yeah it's fine to dorf yourself as any of the unnamed humans. Good luck with your term of office. Hopefully you'll get the first children born in your year.

Rope reed appears to be our source of threads, so try to increase production on that.

Jee wilikers, I think Highmax is near invulnerable, must have been dunked in the river styx like achilles was.

Well if we had the manpower would could extend the mineshaft downwards to harvest silk and pig tails.

We're humans, not dwarves. We wear PLANTS! AND WOOL!

Dwarves wear plants and wool too. And honestly I figure something considered a luxury good (silk) by other races would still be at least somewhat desired by our settlement just to have it. Pigtails can go and suck it. I hear it's coarse and unpleasant anyway.

I've been toying with the idea of proposing some deep mining myself to be honest. At the very least we might get some shiny metal. Maybe even gold. Supplementing our plant stocks would be nice as well.

I don't understand how pig tails can be so expensive... SILK is cheaper!

If you're going to do mining, it will have to be human mining, with shafts and ramps, no stairs.  dig the ares out only, and a wooden pillar built every ten spaces or so, to keep the roof from caving in...

I did some fairly shallow mining in my turn way back when I was founding the place. Dug a shaft straight down in the bottom left of the fort if my memory serves. Thematically speaking I should have dug out the stairs and put in a wooden staircase to simulate the lifts used to lower and lift coal miners out of shaft mines.

Well, I dug stairs and had some "supports" but hey, we can do ramps
