We're squishy tranceless, steel-less humans.

Steel doesn't stop fireballs thrown by the Eldjotun. Look what they did to the poor wolf!

We still lack steel which can make the difference between just a deep cut and lopping off a limb. Plus no trances means we're severely disadvantaged when outnumbered with the only possible bonuses being becoming enraged more frequently and being big enough to knock down a lot of the fort defense mod's weaker enemies.

those things can knock down a Minotaur with a few copper arrows

i wish we could have bow/sword ability like a samurai

Thus the debate if we're Samurai or Knights continues...

I dunno how it works for bows but crossbows can be used one-handed without much penalty other than the added encumbrance of an additional weapon/shield. I would assume if we can hold bows one-handed ingame the same penalty for carrying an additional weapon applies but shouldn't hamper rat of fire otherwise.

This means theoretically we'd be able to use either a crossbow or bow along with another weapon if we felt like it.

I'm sure you can carry two swords and a shield at once... Or Highmax is bugged in Bloody age... Also this reminds me that you don't need hands to carry shields, hitning that the shields are strapped on your arm, rather then carried (dunno where I remember this though)

You can theoretically use as many shields and swords/what have you as you want, but you get attack penalties the more weapons you carry in your hands; dunno if dwarf mode soldiers will do the same. Sometimes larger individuals seem to have their shields equipped to their lower arms rather than their hands somehow.

I had a one-armed dwarf who had carried her crutch, shield, and pick all in one hand. I'm guessing that if you assign multiple weapons/shields, they'll attempt to take them all.

Someone should make an entire squad of dwarves carrying nothing but shields. Theyd be the literal "shield wall" for the army

Or you know, use targes... You know, shields with massive spikes?

I think we could make sharpened shields. A custom reaction with [FORCE_EDGE] might do it.

We'd still need to be able to add attacks to shields. I tried that once. Didn't work.
