Shadow of the crippled Colossus
« on: October 04, 2013, 08:36:28 am »

So I came across a Bronze Colossus on Indrick Boreale.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSrV5--cua8

I approached it, wondering just how the hell a human was going to kill this monstrosity.

It was then that I noticed the full pack of steel arrows lying at the foot of a dead dwarf. Your sacrifice will not be in vain, my friend. I grabbed the quiver and pelted it with all twenty five, and then grabbed one and began to stab at it. I realized a time later that my iron whip secondary weapon was doing good damage to it while my sword was pretty much useless.

Hours later, here I am. Everything in it is broken. I wish I could screenshot on this worthless mac. I'd show you how horrible this colossus would be feeling if only it didn't have NO_PAIN.

The largest wall of red text I have ever seen is what makes up this colossus, and yet it continues to crawl after me, all limbs dysfunctional, trying to push me.

How... How do I kill it? Steel arrow stabbing doesn't do a damn thing, not even repeated stabs to the face. Throwing them only gets them stuck in the colossus, rendering them useless to me. I've tried whipping literally every part of it's body, but there isn't much left to whip. It's a torn, messed up piece of scrap that can somehow move towards me. That said, when I whip what little is left, not much happens. Same as the steel arrow stabbings.

How, for the might of Armok, do I kill this thing? I want to drag the statue back to the city as proof of my deeds and I'm beginning to worry that I'll have to make a choice between dying of exhaustion and forfeiting my honorable duel by running away.

Cmd+Shift+4 should allow you to screenshot by dragging a box around what you want captured, which will then appear on your desktop! Because Steve Jobs be damned if they made something simple for a change.

Thanks.

It won't upload and there isn't a simplified function for it, but rest assured that everything is broken.

As far as I know, the only way to kill colossi is to melt them, or cut off their head. Come back with some magma, or a steel sword.

Don't suppose you know where I could find either o'those?

I mean, this colossus isn't going to kill anyone else. I've ruined it. It is, by description, a hunk of magical bronze that scrapes agonizingly slowly towards you, hoping to nudge you and cause you to skin your knee on a rusty nail or something.

I thought about luring it onto a patch of strawberries and igniting them while it stood on them and then keeping it there, but I don't think that'd work A, and B, it's raining.

I, er, I guess I could leave. Hope to god I find a dwarf later that has a steel weapon.

Wiki says they can be killed by 'cumulative damage' using lots of bolts, but 239 dwarves firing a great volley of steel bolts at point blank wouldn't equal the damage I've done to it for the hour or two I've been hitting it with my whip.

Where have you been applying the damage? If you keep chipping away at the head only it might fall off eventually.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

This is a great topic! I friggin love colossi.

Okay, so yes, cumulative damage will eventually kill it. But... why do you want to kill it?

You should grab a training weapon and max out whatever fighting skills you like, then leave it alive for the next adventurer.

That being said, I've managed to kill these fuckers using only a stone knife. It will take a LONG time.

What, do they just keel over and die? Or is it all on the off chance that the head will fall off?

Adding on to this, they're great for training your companions as well.

Steps to kill Collossi that have been crippled:
1. Make sure you have a shield.
2.Set dodge preference to stand ground.
3.Move adjacent to collossus and press appropriate key to auto attack.
4.Hold until it dies. You will now have legendary all melee skills, shield using, and weapon skill. Congratulations.

Actually, y'know what? Next adventurer I make is only wielding shields. Like 5 of them in each hand.

Why not have an adventurer that wields one of each weapon in the game at the same time, and only use auto-attack so you can train them all randomly.
Along with 13 shields.

Because wielding 20 shields in each hand is more entertaining.
