I...
I play with Harder Settings off.
On the plus side, I do add Fortress Defense creatures like there's no tomorrow.

“Do something!” she whispered, trying to keep her sight on all of them at once.
Basileus clapped his hands once. The Forgotten took a step forward, attracted by the sound.
“There, I did something. I clapped. I like clapping,” he said. -The Investigator And The Case Of The Missing Brain.

I've never gotten natural adamant. On all the embarks I've ever done not a single spire has gotten above the magma sea. So usually I wait until the king arrives and mod my smelter to produce free wafers, make about 40, and then impose a restraint on not making any more and playing with those.

My fortresses are always dug out using quickfort and thus tend to all be carbon copies of each other. That is, until i make a mistake that sends a loose piece of above ground fortification through the farms, the bedrooms, the smelter and magma reservoir to finally end up in the dining room just next to the mist generator that turns to obsidian, thus locking a hundred partying dwarves inside while it quickly fills with molten gold.

As a dwarf adventurer, decently skilled, I was just absolutely ravaged by a Kobold Were-bear. Without even transforming and within the first few attacks it knocked out half my teeth and bit down on my Masterful Welded Mithril Gauntlet so hard that it chipped bone, before shaking me around like a rag-doll.

And now I get to go back and see if I can collect the armor I had made for him...

I-I-I find it difficult to find !!FUN!! My forts tend to be so well designed and my armies so mighty I never fall. I've had forts survive for over 15 ingame years before getting bored and abandoning.

I make it free to join a guild and attach all of the reactions to the patch of grass decoration.

Since the recent onslaught of new releases, I haven't even tried to play without cheating in embark points, fastdwarf, and the aforementioned guild change.

I hardly ever go to the caverns. I just hate when plants start sprouting everwhere.

I only embark with a volcano and a river/brook. (except the one I'm currently doing. I've got, the ocean instead. Desalinization plant is almost up.)

Give a dwarf a Fishpond, couple of buckets, build a Fishery, and enable Fishfarming labor; you feed him for a lifetime. (And get someone to clean and prep the fish)

I can't help trying to save dead dwarves walking... or swimming in magma. If I fail, I watch the fortress unravel before save-scumming. It can be useful ("How mad will everyone get if I convict this dwarf of her own murder?"), but once in a while I'd like to accept FUN instead of dissecting it and starting over with all options intact.

Edit: Wait, how'd I end up in the MW forum? Oh well, still applies.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Someone, get the bug zapper! What do you mean that won't work on a bug the size of a house which glows? No, I don't want to hear it. Just get the damn zapper.

I've only ever had three forts get destroyed or crumble to their ends.

The first was by tantrum spiral, I underestimated how fun evil areas can be in my first attempt to embark in one.

The second was caused by a necromancer-migrant and his aspirations to become mayor by any means possible.

The third happened a few hours ago, I embarked in a good biome and was greeted by firebirds setting the wagon and my orcs ablaze the second I un-paused.

Every other fort was abandoned, either due to some strange, obscure bugs/FPS death preventing me from continuing normal play, or due to boredom/forgetting what my mega-project was.
