Embaressing Secrets
« on: October 02, 2013, 11:49:08 pm »

I-I've... I've never survived a siege!

Even in vanilla.  My OCD flares up and I get frustrated trying to build the "perfect" fort.

Uh, thats fun.

I-I've... I've never played DF with ASCII!

Even in vanilla. My eye-cancer flares up and I get frustrated trying to understand the "awesome" characters.

I'm really fickle about my embark sites. Typically will prospect them with DFHack and check the layer density using reveal before I commit to working on it upon embark. There have to be at least a couple layers that consist mostly of one block type for me to build the core of my fortress inside for me to even consider playing the embark. I just can't be bothered most of the time to spend the time necessary to dig up and pave over large sections of my fortress to make the colors uniform. I don't mind it unimportant/rarely used areas, but the core of my fortress has to look at least somewhat nice.

I'm addicted to startdwarf; 10 12 15 20 whatever! Balancing the booze needed was its own challenge. Now, it's no challenge at all, but the addiction remains.

I...I can't play vanilla dwarf fortress any more.  The embark points are just too low, and the graphics are just too unpleasant, and these god damn cats wont stop adopting dwarves!  I'm so lazy I abuse dfhack whenever I need steel bars. :'(

Srly Mep? is not that hard... And yes they are awesome, from time to time, I feel urges and nostalgia to play in the Matrix... You will feel like Neo o  some kin of God, you can read hieroglyphs or the God´s Tongue.

In some time you will understand all the characters, and is more easily than survives those Leprechauns raids ...

Man... I hate Leprechauns with all my might...!

I have an uncontrollable obsession with embarking at locations with large rivers and a waterfall, so I can build huge waterwheel powerplants (and repanel the whole cliff with windows) ... but always suffer FPS death before I can do anything useful with the power.  Then I just do it again ...

I always cheat my dwarves to have mithril or even adamantine bodies to be more survivable (adamantine axe still hurts them - so tantrum kills them easily). I even make adamantine metal called titanite or dwarfite which is same but very dense (so that dwarven punch goes to be really lethal). I know it's not dwarfy but i hate loosing dwarves even if it is fun.

Over the last two years I...I've lost three forts to the very first siege due to failing to remember to attach a lever to the draw bridge that was meant to seal off my fort.

Technically on the last one (back in v3d I believe) I did remember to attach the lever to the drawbridge but the lever was outside the burrow I established to keep all my dwarves safe in.  No one would go pull it.  Same effect.

Ha!  I still can't "reliably" feed or booze my dorfs.  My response to every siege is to draft all of my dorfs into squads and willy nilly toss them at the enemy all at once - before giving them time to collect their gear - which results in copious amount of ˇFUN!  I regularly restart out shear OCD and "Opps, I dug the wrong wall"; constructed walls just don't look the same.  I starve/drown/ˇSCIENCE! the majority of non-home civ caravans.  I just built my first magma based metal industry this week after a couple years of playing DF.  I lock moodie dorfs into the workshop about half of the time to starve because I rarely have materials I need to get'r'done.  I consistently build my refuse/corpse/burial site outside of my fortress and scratch my forehead when I am overrun by undead body parts.  I pull my security lever more often than not right when my only broker is on top of the bridge.  I now embark with at least 3 dorfs with broker/manager skills because I always seem to find a way to get them kille....errr.... missing for over a week.  I have reoccurring amnesia and consistently try to trade the elfies stone goods in wooden bins.  I build all of my fortresses with doors EVERYWHERE because one of my earliest fortresses I flooded after trying to set-up some waterworks, yet I have yet to flood a single fortress since then and the doors never get used.  My hospital usually consists of an area defined near embark next to the original wagon site I forgot to re-define and my rescue wounded dorf ends up attempting to carry my rescue wounded dorf who attempted to carry my rescue wounded dorf who attempted to carry my injured wrestler dorf to the hospital.  Oh yeah, and I like broccolli but can't spell it.

I...I've never had a tantrum spiral.  I always abandon way way before it degrades to that point, as soon as I realize I made a mistake.

That's assuming I don't just clear out the save files and generate a new world, because I already spent an hour finding the embark site and don't think I'll find another that's what I want.

I save-scum constantly, and without remorse. I've had fortress fall two or three times before I finally let it go. And now that DFHack lets me heal my dwarves...
