dodging foe teleports through fortification

Greetings,

  I loaded some cage traps up with hundreds of prisoners and dumped most of the equipment, then sealed the exit with a constructed wall and had one side of the room with carved fortifications, stationed an archer squad in the room and pulled the lever to release the invaders.

  Well after a while one of the goblins managed to dodge through the fortifications.

  What this means is that dwarves manning fortifications can dodge past the fortifications into the middle of the enemy (or fall if there was a drop) and repeating spike traps (training spears) with fortifications around it could allow the trainees to practice this feat, thus getting out of the danger room.

It could be a set up to slowly release prisoners, pull the lever for the spike and several prisoners jump through the walls (fortifications).

  How can we weaponize this?

Rig a bridge in your entryway that drops invaders into a landing area consisting of a grid of fortifications with a repeating training spear trap in each one. Invaders that fall into the grid will dodge the traps in random directions; some will escape rather quickly*, while others will jump in circles until they're bludgeoned to death.

What happens to a creature that falls directly onto a fortification? Using the design as I imagine it, there would be roughly a 75% chance of doing exactly that. Might be problematic for the trap design.

*assuming you leave an escape route from the grid; you could completely seal it off, of course, in which case trapped invaders would inevitably die from blunt trauma to the brain.

Children you rescue shouldn't behave like rabid beasts.  I guess your regular companions shouldn't act like rabid beasts either.
I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.

If the fortification is constructed as a Fortification, rather than being carved from living stone, or constructed as a Wall and later carved into a fortification, it lacks a ceiling and creatures which fall into it will find themselves inside the fortification.

If the fortification is constructed as a Fortification, rather than being carved from living stone, or constructed as a Wall and later carved into a fortification, it lacks a ceiling and creatures which fall into it will find themselves inside the fortification.

I recently found out that a ceiling (floor on the z-level above) can also be missing if you construct a wall, carve it into a fortification, then construct a ramp on the z above, then remove the ramp. Not sure if it'd also happen with other constructions.

You can avoid the "landing inside a fortification" problem by constructing a floor on the z-level above, with a self-repeating that fills the room with water and then drains it onto the z-level with the fortifications, draining the water out of that level with floor grates that let the water through but not creatures.

You could create some sort of diffusion-based timer that uses Evasive Quantum Tunneling.

Dunno, seems hard to make a weapon out of this, but yet easy to create tragedy.

Foolprooof way to penetrate aquifers of unlimited depth.  (Make sure to import at least 10 stones for mechanisms)
Toughen Dwarves by dropping stuff on them.  (Nothing too heavy though, and make sure to wear armor.)

Like an Almost-Doomsday Device? The Dodge-Diffusion Grid releases a prisoner at random intervals, who runs across a pressure plate that activates a number of spear traps in key points of the fort. Placement and contents of the spear traps can be adjusted to vary the level of devastation that ensues when the anti-timer goes off.

Are they stuck inside, are they harmless while there, and are dwarves still scared of them?

Can they shoot out of fortifications, and can they be attacked with melee weapons?

You could put goblin archers in them in the underground to shoot FBs (and probably your dwarves) until they run out of ammo if they can still shoot through them.

I bet you could get this to happen more reliably with a multiple-weapon dodge trap.

Because when a goblin dodges a ten-weapon trap, they will move ten squares at once. This could put them on the far side of a wide moat or past your traps. Or even through fortifications.

You could put goblin archers in them in the underground to shoot FBs (and probably your dwarves) until they run out of ammo if they can still shoot through them.

Even presuming that they goblins can still act while straddling the fortification, once their ambush or siege is broken their only goal will be to leave the map as quickly as possible. Thus they will not fire on anyone, instead trying to run to the map edge as soon as they get off that tile.

I'm pretty sure that they react to each attack individually, so as soon as they leave the square (by dodging one space) they evade all the rest of the attacks by the spear/spike on that space, so  :( no ten tile dodges.
