clear glass eyes with magma inside would look great

He's already doing that.

Just hollowed out the major bones and plan to run magma through them, it won't really look that impressive but it's the principle of the thing.

I'll post pics tomorrow after I get the arms realigned.

Next step will be the empty hand.

Obsidian cast the throne, not build from blocks.

This gives high quality stone caverns to build the final fort out of (which can be engraved).  You can just carve away unnecessary stone.

You will also have constructed your magmaworks that can then be incorporated into the mug/flagon plans as necessary.

I will probably cast the throne, either way I'm going to need a huge obsidian farm so I might as well go all out. In the time it will take to get the necessary number of bone blocks, I should be able to finish the casting work.

Anyway here's the model updated with the magma channels inside the bones, slightly re-arranged arms, and a goblet.

If that looks good to everyone I'm ready to move on to any accessories. I'm debating resting a shield, axe, or hammer against the throne sides, as well as considering a crown of some sort (I'm worried it might be too gaudy though).

This is also a good time to decide if the throne needs any overhauling on a large scale. I can always come back after I cast it and make embellishments, such as fortifications or embedded cages, but if there's any suggestions for larger changes I'd like to hear them.

As an aesthetic comment, the back of the throne seems very... square.  Usually there's embellishments particularly atop the backing.  Small spires, curving... something.

This is, however... awesome.

Glorious. Simply glorious.

INCOMING OPINION

The thing needs more menacing spikes. Probably on the top/back of the throne, but those would be a major pain to cast. A crown would be awesome if it is made entirely out of bling (including gem windows acting as insets).

Also, did you plan this with a way to pump the magma back up out of the limbs and back to the top to maintain a constant flow? Perhaps through the throne or something.

Platinum greataxe resting against the throne. The haft can be whatever, but the blade should be platinum, for the following reasons:
  • Implies artifact quality - only artifact weapons can be platinum
  • Platinum is bling
  • Platinum axes are fucking intense in combat - every blow either lops off a limb or shatters bone. I'll take an artifact platinum axe over an artifact adamantium axe any day.

You should edge the axe in adamantine if you can, obviously, for the best of both worlds.

Ooh! As an added bonus take a flammable artifact and drop it into his mug, making the drink appear to smoke.

Also I'm not sure the mug should be made of gold - I know since it's constructed it won't melt, but if real Armok were to drink magma from a golden mug that would melt, so he might feel dishonored by the implication. Steel might be better, and could also serve as a symbol of dwarven industry.

Ok choose your variety of axe from my weapon reference thingy here (or give me some detailed suggestions)

As for the magma; yes I do have a circulation system planned, magma pools at foot level and is pumped up to the shoulders where it restarts the flow.

As far as metals go I'm planning on using steel for the boots and gauntlets and want to use something visually distinct from that for the goblet. If gold is silly what would be a good substitute for either the goblet material or the boots and gauntlets?

I'm going to poke at the crown concept a little and see what I can do there, I have about a 14 diameter circle to work with here, so I can't go to fine on the details.

Finally I'm planning on casting the throne using the big simple rectangles you see now, then cutting out any fancier designs. I'm already considering filing off the top corners, but I'm not sure how to make it Menace With Spikes, if one of you wants to quick grab MS paint and do a rough mockup of that I'll work on putting it into the design.

For the axe, I can't see the first picture at work, but of the 5 in the second picture I like either of the double-headed axes.

For the mug, anything magma-safe would work, but personally my suggestion would be either nether-cap, or crystal glass with a nether-cap bottom/resting on a nether-cap coaster.

In the first pic, is the fourth one from the left even an axe? Looks more like some wierd scythe.

As for which axe, I think the double bladed axe in the first one gives a bit more unique style to the axe. Probably use a different handle. The rightmost one in the second pic also looks pretty cool.

These are the axes used in Diablo 2, the one in the first image that looks wrong is actually a "bill"

Suggestion: would not put crown on head, as that would put too much detail in one spot. Maybe hang it off the top corner of the throne instead?

I'd put images of 3 dwarves striking down 2 elves at the bottom of the throne or at the very top. As it is, the throne is a bit dull compared to the avatar.
