Yggdrasil - semi-illustrated 4P RPG - The Sodden Paths
« on: September 28, 2013, 06:13:30 pm »

"Alright, I'll tell about the Yggdrasil Labyrinth. Well, I tell a lie. I'll tell you about some adventurers, who braved the beasts and traps to reach the top. I'll tell you what they found there – how it changed everything, or maybe how it didn't. Heh, you'll have to wait and see, won't you.

First let you tell you a bit about the Yggdrasil labyrinth. So you have enough to stand on to know what's goin' on.

Yggdrasil. The World Tree. Everything you see around you is supported by that one tree. It's fair to say that life depends on that tree. The rivers flow from it. You can find things there, plants and creatures, that don't live anywhere else. Some of those things are monsters, though, and they don't take kindly to trespassers. It's why adventurers go out and hunt them down, let harvesters and researchers get closer to the tree, climb the strata. They never reached the top though, not yet.

We don't live at the bottom, no. We're on a disk of land, surrounded by seas that pour off the edge. At the centre, of course, is the Yggdrasil. There's a whole mess of ruins and swamps round the base of the trunk. The Predecessors. They understood a lot more than we did. They built their civilisation into and up the tree, afore they all disappeared. Just another mystery of the Labyrinth. For some adventurers, finding out what happened to the Predecessors was why they travelled to the Yggdrasil. Other's just wanted fame and wealth.

Now, adventurers came in all kinds. The thing is about them is that all of them have one similarity: they can all access the Memory. They absorb the experiences of the things they kill, and they use the Memory to improve themselves. Most folks can't do that.

Some were masters with all kinda' sharp and pointy implements. Some specialised more than others, though if something bad got close and personal, these folks were there to take 'em on. Being so close to monsters ain't a safe career choice, so they often plated themselves in the thickest armour they could.

Some had them those fancy firearms. Ain't nothing they feared when they had a trusty rifle. Some preferred pistols to get nice and close. Others liked hand-cannons more to give themselves a bit more kick.

Hexers were scary folks. They knew the sigils that wrote reality, and so they, err...  bent the rules a bit on how the world should work with their runes. They knew the difference between right and wrong, though, and makin' your sickness go away was easy to them as making it worse.

Alchemists were pretty important to a team. They could pour their mana into special compounds to burn, freeze, or shock. Damn deadly stuff – don't anger the alchemists, unless you want your drink one night to burn a hole in your belly.

Beastfolk are unique fellows. They don't tend to use weapons so much, as they got claws and teeth enough to deal with nasties. Too wild to wear armour, most of 'em, so they can't always go toe-to-toe for too long.
"

Hello, and welcome to my RPG. Yggdrasil is a team-based RPG where a party of four adventurers attempt to reach the top of the World Tree.. for whatever reasons, actually. Thats up to you. This should be a relatively RP heavy game, so play nice – or don't. Character creation is pretty simple. You can be either a human or a beastkin. I'm open to suggestions to be other races, but if I don't think it fits I'll veto it, no hard feelings. It won't necessarily be an easy game, though I won't quite make it a roguelike.

As a new game it'll be adjusted and changed to make it balanced and more fun as we go if necessary, though I'll try to avoid changing things too much. Please say ideas, suggestions and complaints as you go. I am a new DM, so please forgive my mistakes, but do point them out.

Combat is action point based. Enemies have sprites. Let us together reach the very top of Yggdrasil, and uncover the mysteries of the World Tree!

Players: Elephant Parade / Elerous

I've already just spent a tone of time creating a character for a different RP but I'm posting to watch because the setting seems really interesting.

...Maybe. I would point out you don't have any pistol skills, so you'll be very ineffective with your weapons. MP is 5 + Intelligence.

True, but ineffective weapons are better than none.

And there's chaos when push comes to shove, but it's music to my ears.
