Lucky escape!
« on: September 28, 2013, 11:17:30 am »

What's your luckiest moment in Adventure? That moment when you thought your hero was dead, but somehow you managed to escape and recover to continue your story?

For example:
I was fighting in catacombs against a couple of soldiers; I killed one, but the other hit me in the arm, and I lost my shield. Then he attacked me again and stabbed me in the chest. I desperately tried one last hit, and he jumped away. In a hole. He died. I was lucky enough to crawl away and rest for a while, recover almost entirely and start again (I died a few minutes later because of a single arrow in the head).

Well, there was the time I survived being stabbed in the heart.
It happened, shockingly, in a dungeon while I was searching for a chief or some such. My adventurer was primarily a bowman, but because of the low visibility I was forced into melee combat a few times. For the most part it was going well, until I fell off a staircase while dodging an attack from a lasher. Then, well, this happened:

Apparently, I had a jagged shard of bone jammed through my heart in just the right manner to cause no bleeding whatsoever. My companion killed the lasher, and I was able to walk out of the dungeon and rest with no problems aside from occasional pain-induced fainting.

I fought a dragon with about 8 companions. It had killed two of us and another two were on fire so I began to retreat down the exit of the lair (I hadn't lured it outside, not smart), I layed down to get past one of my crossbowmen when it breathed fire, setting everyone but myself on fire, then proceeded to start beating on a crossbowman. I retreated. Then I decided I'd throw things at it while it was distracted. Somehow I managed to slay the dragon by throwing a Lion skull at it. Victorious!

With my remaining two charred and badly wounded companions I set fourth to tell of my victory. I fast travelled to the site of the nearest fort and then...

I melted. I left fast travel, stepped inside of the fort and then had a wall of text telling me I'm melting, melted, dead. I guess I was either a witch all of a sudden and it was raining or something in my backpack had been on fire that whole time.

I didn't really get to continue with that character, but there was one time I survived having my spine destroyed by virtue of being a vampire.

Attacked a maceman, whose first move was to bash my dwarf's head in, luckily he only fractured the skull, and my adventurer could move a couple of tiles away from him before going unconscious, by the time my dwarf got to his senses, his companions have finished off the maceman.
