Race: Unpronounceable. Typically called Rak or Stenners. Officially called Dezhreskciles. Nobody actually calls them that because it's also impossible to pronounce.

If you're a Rak, odds are you don't get along with others. This is probably because you aren't like the others; they're all made of tiny vulnerable sacks of fluid, the only worthwhile parts being the very inside of them. You, on the other hand, are a collection of highly energized and organized pieces of shiny rock. Your brain is essentially a quantum computer, and while you would think being made of rock would make you less mobile and flexible than the other races, you'd be wrong. Since you're basically a pile of sentient jewel-dust/sand, you can actually change shape, to an extent. Can't do basic fine manipulation all that well, like pulling a trigger or using a keyboard, but since you're a giant battery made of crystal, in a sense, you can manipulate things on an extremely fine level, like molecularly fine. Did we mention the lasers? Yeah, you can fire lasers. Mostly blow-torch style, not all that powerful or ranged, comparatively, and it takes a lot of you, but you can fire lasers. Also, you don't need to breath, and you feed off of heat and light. Not having a face, and looking like you're worth more than the entire board of director's net worth, doesn't help you get along with people. And then there's the part where you're 'color-blind' because you see above (and below) the typical range of species vision. Finally, the part that really sets you apart; you don't have what most people typically think of as cells, so you don't heal or grow. You ingest material that replaces lost material. Oh yeah, and your entire body is your brain when it isn't doing anything specific(crystals changes form to perform different tasks; synapse crystals, perception crystals, feeding crystals, morphing crystals(which change other crystals into different types; if you lose your core of these you're basically fucked), movement crystals, armor crystals, etc.)

Name: Unpronounceable. You can call him Dave, though.
Profession: Unpronounceable. No, not really, he's a Mechanical Engineer.
Goal: Army Workforce of evil helpful robots, obviously.
Ahh, finally, a mechanical engineer.
The race is also accepted on the condition that I have permission to edit it into the original post, geez, I can't believe I forgot something as elementary as a rock alien.

Species: Space elf
Gender:Male

Science:Biology

Goal: To be able to control the minds of weaker-minded races and parasites.

Accepted based on the fact that, as a space elf, you need to believe strongly in Lamarckism, you know, that one which is wrong. Doesn't mean you can't... succeed. though

Name: Ch'thul F'woo Ch'ool Zul
Species: Giant Squid
Gender: Male (Probably dosnt matter in this game tough.)
Abilities: SuperSquidStealth™, invertebrate fragility, lateral abstract reasoning, Tentacle goodness
Profession: Biologist
Goal: To bring back long extinct (and possibly dangerous) species (Dinosaurs or eldritch abominations, it dosnt matter really).
Even if they did possibly destroy a few civilizations or decimated entire species, they didn't deserve extinction!
Also, this is a good opportunity to unlock the mysteries of a possible connection to work together with other biologists in order to create something new and exiting!

Anyway:

Rob-o-tron (Human Cybernetic Operation*)
Physicists
Goal: Study and perfection of his newly discovered energy source. First tests left just enough of him to scoop into this can, and try again.


*It's man in a can. Has pretty much the same abilities and disabilities.


Accepted, Not familiar with the name, but I'm familiar with the idea.

(Can I be a crab like humanoid? Pincers( 2 small extra arms with pincers.), Chitin ( Everything but blunt objects and futuristic weapons are ineffective.), Bad luck magnet ( Your race is cursed with bad luck) to make me more prone to accidents in trade for my other abilities. Also when was the last time there was a crustacean as a race in a forum game? Don't answer that.)

Race: Crab-uloid, human if not acceptable
Job: Biologist.
Goal: to make his own biologic spaceships.

I like what you want to do, therefore I also accept your race, however, that does mean that I need to post it in the original post/omnibus.

Race: Little people.

This race of absurdly small humanoids look and sound like small humans, but are only half a meter tall. And thats the (analong of basketball) players. Although squishier than the other races, they are also able to fit into tiny spots and screw with mechanical things easier. They quite enjoy the human substance known as "tea" and may often ramble on about it.

Things about them:
Tiny size (fit into small spots better than elves, but almost no chance of surviving melees)
Fancy hands (good engies.)
Tea lovers (ramble about tea)

Name: Edgar Evans
Profession: Electrical Engineer
Goal: Become an Civil Engineer and build a new part of the station? (if that is out than to make a badass, insanely cool robot army to fix the place.)

Accepted based on the Tea, which I also find myself enjoying quite often.


And that's that, I look forwards to hosting this wondrous game of scyence and magical enjoyment, Those of you who have submitted ideas for races shall be properly credited for the idea, especially Rolepgeek and Aseaheru, who did the majority of my job for me, and then some time between tomarrow and the next two hours, we shall begin proper.

Your race's remnants have had a unnatural bad luck as if someone encoded it into your genes, however your resilient shells protect you from most of this. Most other crew members disdain your crab like-ness, however your genes are quite useful in biology making you somewhat useful....if strange. Your probably not going to last long without others who aren't fantastically racist. Oh you also have some useful extra pincer arms.

    Chitin. (Almost everything is ineffective against you.), Strangeness. ( Races very different from you will hate you even more than regular.), Bad luck ahoy!(Your race is VERY prone to bad luck.), Pincers (you have 2 extra arms that are small pincers.).

Is this a repost, or simply a confirmation of my understanding? Because, frankly, I see every kind of race in the station having been there long enough to make them all more or less used to each other. The Rak are an exception. The other reason I see there being a potential exception is the fact that there are extreme environmental differences between the needs of a race and the majority that holds the PolyTechnic (such as the whaleverlords), but those are for later.

    The faculty is in a room. Not just any room, but a conference room. The view outside of the PolyTech's other buildings over their suitably artificial turf/grass hybrid is marked by the students who are currently in the process of taking their finals for the term.

  Unfortunately, that means that this is the funding meeting. Going by the usual methods, the board of trustees has sent a small accountant to introduce you to the concept of budge allocation for what must be the fourth time in this year alone.
He is a flighty skinny man wearing black-rimmed glasses and a cheap suit that seems to have been bought from a thrift store specializing in Space Elf apparel. It looks a little bit tight. He is currently filing papers and preparing for his little introduction to a subject which all of you not only understand, but know the outcome of the meeting.

            “Now we can begin: I am Gene Rotterdam and I have been appointed-“

            One of the faculty coughs in such a way that seems to sound more like “duped” than a cough.

            Gene Rotterdam knows not interruption or subtlety so he continues “by the board of trustees to introduce to you the financial consideration for the next academic year.”

    He stops talking as the lights flicker slightly, if it's anything like the usual cause, it means that Rob-O-Tron's experiment has failed. There is a pause as the faculty and even an accountant who knows not about subtlety or interruption listens. Slowly, but surely,  a shockwave passes through the windows, and rattles the building just a little bit. This shockwave is followed by the screams of a hundred flaming students running for their lives.

            “The board of trustees would like me to tell you very specifically Rob-O-Tron, that you will be required to do significant research outside of your project because PolyTech does not like keeping professors who can’t manage their experiments well enough to avoid large catastrophes. But of course, if you find anything like last year, you’ll be fine.”
 
                The rest of the faculty wonder what Rob-O-Tron found last year that would make him so attractive to the board of trustees.
                “Theta, your request for funding based on ah-“ he pauses one moment and adjusts his glasses. “’Lamarckian Evolution’ have been declined until you, like Professor Rob-O-Tron, find something of immense worth to study.”
                “None of you have contributed to the mass of knowledge that the board of trustees desires that I mention, that PolyTech has acquired. However, I would like to welcome… Professor Dave, from the… stenesian institute on Beta Pax III, he is a mechanical Engineer with a special expertise in robotics, also professor Ch'thul F'woo Ch'ool Zul from the Aquarian Institute on Tatooine who is a Biologist, and Edgar Evans who is a particularly nice person to share Tea with. However, that doesn’t affect my decisions because you have an operational budget, each of you, of around five space-marks. This is a fifty percent increase from last year, so therefore, I hope that you can use it well.”
                Five space marks will buy a large space-soda at McSpace’s pub and soda depository.
                “There is one more item of business, that I have been instructed to tell you that the PolyTech board of trustees has reviewed its ah… task management and decided that it is possible for you to work together on projects to earn more budget together.  In fact, they strongly recommend it. So much so that they mandated a grouping that seems more or less arbitrary to me, but they assure me is scientifically sound.”

Theta observes everyone rushing to the bulletins, noting how they try to maintain sanity and order while trying to jam their optic sensory organ onto it, and see if they would try to cooperate to take turns, throw punches, or anything else to keep their job done.
