Seperate Construction Labour
« on: September 25, 2013, 12:02:23 pm »

Just a simple one this time. Seperate the b -> C constructions into their own labour, so you can have your legendary masons working in the workshops and not wasting time building your walls, and have all your labourer dwarfs set to construct walls and floors quickly.

I know you can set workshop profiles to skill minimum or a specific dwarf, but that doesn't prevent that same legendary dwarf from going out and wasting time building a wall when Dorf McSchmuk can do it too.

Wouldn't be a bad idea. Wood working has the same problem.
Could also put an option somewhere to set skill requirements for construction jobs, just like the workshop profile.

I dislike having many burrows and besides sometimes these guys derp out and take a stone from afar instead of from the pile right next to the workshop.

That should work great.

I do think construction should be a separate job. No need to differentiate between stone, wood and metal here, though.

Does construction even have skill associated?

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Yes, depending on the material used it can be masonry, carpentry or metalsmithing. Surprisingly, there are no skill gains from construction, but high skill speeds up the process.

Well, perhaps they shouldn't? Brick made of stone is no different in handling from brick made of wood or zinc.

I'd add "construction" job into job selection that encompass all the building. Or maybe merge it with architecture? It's pretty useless skill currently, a bit more use for it would be nice.
