I have a sneaking feeling like I've played this game... but I couldn't have.

It has elements of SPAZZ, Flatspace and Transcendence in it so you might recognise parts of them in it.

That's a pretty snazzy trailer!
Thanks :)

Only has a few hundred views, though. You guys need to get it out there!
Yeah... well, we don't have big following yet. I hope it will change when we do an official release. It would be on 2nd of April. The game will also become available for sale on that day.

I'd suggest trying to find a way to be more heard about... no idea how maybe even a kickstarter
Yes, we plan to have a kickstater as well as adding game on greenlight some time in the future.

Is it a roguelike/Will have an option for permadeath? (I didn't read all four pages. I read part of the first, and then replied. If this was already covered, sorry.)
Yup. There is a hardcore mode. You can select it when starting a new game. There are some other options too.

You forgot to add Space Rangers and Darkverse. As well as diablo 2 :)

Looks cool. Reminds me a bit of Homeworld frigates. Can't really say much beyond that... and maybe that balance wise you should give it light armor at least since i assume frigates are medium/large ships as far as player control goes,,, but that's comming form someone who has no idea hw you want to balance your game.

It's even cooler when you get to control it :)
It has somewhat funky control mechanics for the weapons, because of the way they are positioned. Fun to play.

Well, we have 4 ship classes now: light and medium frigates and light and medium cruisers. So, heavy frigates are not that big compared to other ships. And this particular one according to the game lore was never designed to be a heavy armored ship, it was designed for other purposes, so it doesn't have a lot of armor.

Yes, more or less :)

Thanks!
And you can actually grab it to play on the 2nd of April, Wednesday. In just couple of days!

I am really looking forward to what you guys have to say about the game when it is released!

DF doesn't mold players into its image - DF merely selects those who were always ready for DF.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

If coffee costs 10 bucks where you live, you need to move out of your western/urban city.

(Also posting to watch.)

It seems to be like Drox Operative, without the living world, with better fights and graphics. Is that it ?

Yeah I'd call that probably the difference between eating fast food vs. eating leftovers at home for one meal, or skipping two lattes.

10$ is not a huge price compared to other games of the genre. Drox costs (along with the DLC) almost 30$ pretty damn steep for an indie.
Flatspace 2k (the newest version that offers mod support) costs 24$
SPAZ is 9$ (altho arguably it's a less complicated game but chances are SPAZ 2 will come out for a similar price and it's pretty much direct competition for VoidExpanse).
Starsector (used to be Starfarer)... another indie in alpha... and it's 10$ well.

So all things considered a 10$ pricepoint for an incomplete game of this genre is kinda acceptable i guess... altho it might annoy some people.

It seems to be like Drox Operative, without the living world, with better fights and graphics. Is that it ?

From what i understand factions and their interactions are planned to appear later.

Despite my usual reluctance to buy things before they're released, I decided to go for this and try it out.

Unfortunately I get 1-2 second hitches all the time making it pretty much unplayable. It happens everywhere, even on the main menu, seemingly at random but seems to also be reliably triggered by something 'happening', for example whenever I click a menu button, aggro an enemy or try to mine something. This would be bad enough, but it seems like it's just the display and input that freeze, the game itself keeps playing. This makes combat pretty much impossible since the enemy ships get free hits on me while the game is 'frozen'.

I'll keep an eye out to see if this gets fixed, can't really comment on the game past that.

We see a lot of games that end up going too far for the sake of balance; streamlining character-progression and limiting choices to the point that players are just there to click buttons.

Ahh yes... I like to call this Phenomenon: Overbalance

Where balance is achieved in the game at the cost of making it a much blander experience.
