An overview of non-interactive machines, including their distribution and impact on gameplay (explosions!): http://www.gridsagegames.com/blog/2014/07/non-interactive-machines/

Lots of gifs, e.g.

It seems everyone's pretty much in agreement on "who cares about save scumming." So the new save system was implemented and saves on every new map, and whenever the window is closed (even if you don't use "save & exit"--just close the window and the game will save). No matter what kind of protection a game uses, if it's not server-side then there are easy ways around it. No sense in wasting time on it. Kinda like anti-piracy efforts in commercial software: Not really worth it, especially if they annoy legitimate players.

Yeah, those who want to save scum can always find a way to do it. As long as permadeath games make it so that it's not too trivial to reload then I think it's alright.

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

Haha, you are free to mod the sfx with your own version. Be warned, there are currently 600 sound effects and counting ;)

The sound effects take the realistic route, rather than a gamey/retro one. Very satisfying, though a pain to work on since there are so many...

Going to add a few more today for a new series of weapons: the low collateral damage, high critical, penetrating weapons. Retropunch convinced me to get that new mechanic off the to-do list immediately.

I made one with a wad editor!  Replaced the death heads and cacodaemons with flying happyfaces like from "midi maze" also.

must have been 14 years old or something.  when was that out?  92? Never uploaded it to any BBS though.  So you probably didn't see mine :)

Pretty much done with penetration. Here's a simple test firing on a machine:

Will cover the mechanics details in a future blog post (along with more gifs, of course!). Shoot through walls, machines, robots...

So just to clarify, is there a playable version of this or no?

Not unless you count the old prototype, which is playable and still gets lots of downloads, but only includes the core mechanic and isn't really representative of the current experience. The alpha will be out in the coming months.

The website consists mostly of the dev blog, so there isn't yet much of a dedicated place to get information on the overall state of the game. An expanded website is in the works, but progressing slowly since that's still of secondary importance right now.

A little writeup on the new projectile penetration mechanic.

And a demonstration (more on blog):

I'm seriously hoping for rocket-propelled harpoon right now, Kyzrati, one which continues to rocket after striking the target of course, unless it assplodes on impact, (another valid option I guess).

I guess it's been a while since I've last posted. Looks good, keep at it!
