I wonder how they actually plan to get games working on SteamOS?

Get people to use it, increase market size, make it a profitable platform to develep for.

If so, would DosBox work? GOG uses that for pretty much all their older games that have trouble working on newer OS's.

I just mean previously-existing games in general. Your Battle-Halos and your Gears of Duty and Skyblivion and stuff like that. From my experience, Windows programs don't play nicely with Linux at all, even with WINE.

DOSBox is indeed great though. All hail the mighty DOSBox :P

My hope with this is that Linux based operating systems will replace Windows as the dominant gaming OS, even if only through Valve using Steam's clout to force the market in that direction. Currently Microsoft is able to gouge $100-200 from anyone building a computer just for the convenience of Windows compatibility, a demographic that they have no reason to support (and actually have reason to actively inhibit, since they'd rather we all just buy Xboxes). It'd make PC gaming much more accessible to have costs reduced like that, and we'd be able to see real innovation in terms of operating systems built for gaming.

Whether Valve's weird console-computer thing will be a success is another thing entirely (I very much doubt it), but I can't see a new Linux operating system backed by Valve being a bad thing, since more Linux compatibility is always good.
