How do you plan to supply the entire army with no vehicles? And keep all the guns fully functional in the cold?

No vehicles? We got our trucks.

As for cold, look at fucking Russia. -10c and they STILL are working. We can do it, not a problem.

Yeah, temperature is a problem for engines, not the guns.

Besides, if it ever falls into disuse, we can recoup the costs by letting film-makers use the abandoned structures as sets.

True that.

Are there any major resources in the mountans? Because we could always set up the forts there as places where our population can go and hide in if we fuck this all up.

The mountains are almost impossible to traverse, even with an engine that works a truck ain't getting up it any time soon.

If vehicles could use it then it'd be a trade route.

Russia is always cold, throwing people not used to it into it is gonna kill, maim and disfigure a lot of men until they adapt.

Ice forming in the gun barrels is a danger so you'd have to keep them heated unless you want them to rust which needs more supplies.

Not going to get the turn done tonight.

On a side note, anyone knows a good diceroller that can roll large groups of dice at once. The wizard of the coast one seems broken. It has a tendency to give streaks. Ie, either lot's of flaws, or lot's of succeses.

To be fair, if you managed to get water down a gun barrel, then took it somewhere it could be frozen, you kinda deserve what'll happen to you.

No real risk from ice though, since it needs water to form.

Ninjaedit: Try dicetool then Ebbor?

Tunnels.
So?
Allright. Who says we are gonna do that.
Or keep them inside.

So now your digging tunnels into solid rock in dozens of places on top of building fortresses, Well it'll keep people busy for about 15 years if nothing else.

Yes lets build a good line of fortresses in the mountains.
If we do so them then our neighbour may try a landing using there island to our west coast.

Temperature is a problem for diesel engines much more than petrol ones.

Yeah.... dude this is a horrible idea your going to lose massive numbers of people to exposure and have to use tens of thousands of workers for years just to manage to build it and thats without finding a way to supply it properly which takes even more time.

Your building a fortress line on a mountain thats almost impossible to cross, pointless much? All you need is a few scout posts to provide warning if they try, they can only use infantry so wouldn't be hard to just let them freeze half to death crossing then intercept with tanks on the other side.

Until they bring in a mountain division and they can just waltz through. Give the men greatcoats or better yet, actual equipment tailored to the mountains. Supplying the fortifications won't be a problem, since we can do it via rail within the defenses.

Uhuh, a rail running up the side of a mountain.

This is an insane waste of supplies and thats why you have scout posts. They send men we spot me, men climb down, men get crushed by tanks. A line of fortresses built on a mountain is a horrible idea and so costly it'll probably bankrupt the country.

Most of your arguments seem to be confused, half assed and just plain crazy Pat.
I agree that we dont really need that much, and we mostly just need scout posts, but at the passes we need a bit more than that. When we get radar I can see a loose string of things up there, along with places for testing and dealing with space. We dont need much now, but we do need something. And some troops in something small up there will do a hell of a lot more than all our troops with nothing, yes?

ENJAED EDIT:
Yes, exactly. It is kinda hard to freeze in a warm bunker.

EDIT TWO:

Rail running up a mountan is gonna happen anyways. And if those forts also act as mines and a way to save the nation? Its gonna help. Besides, what is your idea of a fortress?
