And we'd need better armor. Otherwise they'll be vulnerable.

you wanted some new stuff right

* LordSlowpoke smears new stuff all over the game

i'm going to put overly large cannons

on a ship

a prototype of a ridiculously large cannon on a prototype ship and make it fire at the enemy's mainland with destroyer cover

you now know my intentions and can someone go design fragmentation shells so we can let it loose at the bigger population centers i'm fairly sure the shrapnel from a one meter caliber round would be devastating

I'm pretty sure it'll weigh more than two tons, and displace a LOT more than that, just sayin' :P

Thanks for the vote update thing though, that's appreciated.

Not really. Better to have it just destroy a building in such a way that a cloud of (material used in building) covers the town.

no problem

the part where i have no idea how much it's going to displace made me throw percentages around (ebborneers going to make it work anyway or at least collapse in a dramatic fashion)

vote seadicks 1933 yo

Weight: Between 1.5 to 2 tons
Length: More than 50 meters
Length of barrel: At least 60% of finished blueprint
Caliber: More than 40 centimeters
Range: 30 kilometers minimum
Elevation: Range between at least 20 and 40 degrees, additional a plus

So, you want 400mm\75 gun and plan a weight of like 1.5 tons? Fix your  sense of scale. :)

150-200 tons is more like it (even that looks a bit low) . And that without a turret

And no, you can't use it on 5000t vessel ever. Even if you somehow fit it, That ship will flip when this will fire.

Just in case, largest ever battleship gun installed on Yamato was 460mm\45 (45 here is length in calibers, that means it had 20 meters long barrel) and it weighted 165 tons!

Gun like you ask is much larger

Either way, you could afford to vote an another one or two projects Asea, we have the slots for them (One or two depending if the merger vote goes through, regardless of modifications to it so long as the core idea is kept intact which is Delta becoming a large team.)

i do place trust in the ebborneers.

if things come to an end, the things can be made out of balsa wood

i might have also critically misread the sources i worked with and assumed that was an european instead of american decimal point so yeah it would be around 1500-2000 tonnes

let me get to that

The standed length of an artillery piece is Caliber times 50, 400mm x 50 = 20 000 millimeters, not too far from a 40.6 cm SK C/34 gun or a British 16 inch Mark I naval gun.
Weight wise a 400mm mortar could easily be under 200 ton see Karl-Gerät, a 400mm canon is not much bigger see  British 16 inch Mark I naval gun.

Gerat is a mortar, meaning short barrel (seven calibers to be precise), meaning relatively low weight

As for naval gun. that's a weigh of a single gun, without turret and loading mechanism. Weight of that triple turret of Nelson is 1500 tons.

Also, what makes you think that 50 calibers is standard for artillery pieces? If you talk about naval guns, 40 or 45 calibers are more typical than 50 calibers. Most howitzers have something like 15-25 calibers. AT guns usually have something like 40-60  and most AA guns have 60+

I have no idea why but most naval guns are about 40 to 50 calibers so for a 400mm gun 50 calibers is a good start.

Do we really need another Cruiser Taric? It is so similar to the annihilator.

Reread the description Evil ;)

It's more preliminary work, and seeing if we can get a cruiser without the flaws in the annihilator.

I would rather produce the later versions without the problematic hybrid system.

On the 5000t supergun:

I guess slowpoke need to figure out whether what kind of gun he would want. A long gun would be good enough to hit a capital ship but its lack of maneuverability would hurt itself. A mortar guarantees a large charge, and if perfectly designed there it could be bigger than anything ever built, but whether it can go inside the range of coastal guns is another question. A howitzer is something in between.
