State of Decay PC
« on: September 20, 2013, 02:43:27 pm »

So the Xbox game State of Decay, a zombie survival action sim, has come to PC finally as part of Steams early access. At one point they stated the game will have a sandbox version on PC instead of the story mode which is pretty open already, but I don't know if it is still the case. On the XBOX it was a great game and the controller was my only complaint. Sadly right now the controller is mandatory for the pc version but it's destined to be changed soon. I suggest everyone check it out on steam as it just launched today, it's on the first page and I don't need to link to it.

...Over the next however many weeks, we will be putting up versions of the keyboard interface and using your comments and feedback to make it awesome. Right this minute, the Early Access version requires an Xbox 360 controller (or a compatible 3rd-party controller, although we haven’t done much testing with those yet).

This process is not for everyone. Casual players, the easily frustrated, and the short of time should NOT get the Early Access version. Hey, I am all three of those things, y’all. Those are not criticisms. It’s just that we want everyone to have the experience that best suits their needs. You all deserve the best, so if you’re not into giving feedback, just wait a few months and play the final version after we make it great.

I heard that people on the internets liked this game on xbox atleast so I'll keep an eye open, I am certainly waiting for mouse and keyboard support though.

Oh yeah if anyone has played it I do have a question that is kind of a deal breaker. Does it have special infected? Cause to be frank, I am sick and tired of special infected.

It is most definitely on Windows 7 and 8. I used both a stock controller, and the 3rd party Razer controller. Very much so P&P.

Yes it does. It has a few, I'll give you a list:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

They are a lot nicer to play with than the common infected, and the narrative actively involves them. I recommend the game regardless of those as it does oh so much right.

I've been looking forward to playing this game. Glad to see that it's out on Steam. Thanks for the link to Revocane's let's plat, CognitiveDissonance, I'm a fan of huis channel, yet somehow I missed this particular playthrough.

Man, most of the freak zombies are terrifying. Especially the Big Un's! My first encounter with one ended with Marcus being ripped in half (note to people who haven't played yet: anyone can die, yes, even the "main" character). Whenever a mission comes up to kill a freak zombie, I ignore them. Too scary, too risky.  :'(

Ferals are also pretty scary, and they'll creep around the perimetre of your base, biding their time so they can one-hit-kill you when you least expect it. Good snipers on your guard towers are a necessity.

Yeah but the armored zombies, which are a joke, are treated like a big deal.

Though I am sure they fixed it so they are no longer considered a "special zombie"

Literally ripped in half?  Maybe I'll have to take a look at this game, been a long time since I've seen a decent zombie game.

Yes, straight up ripped in half, courtesy of the Big Uns "accordion attack". I heard it's possible to survive it with full health, but it'll take half your health and cripple you (which can take one or two real world days to recover from).

And the swat/armored zombies are still treated as "special zombies" in-game. Apparently they're bulletproof, but I barely use guns so I didn't even notice. :D

They are bullet proof, but yeah... they are a complete non-deal because most of the time you will be using melee weapons and even if you did bring a gun you use melee weapons on normal zombies anyhow.

It actually is a benefit to you to see them on missions because they are just a joke.

You can shoot their helmets off and then headshot them IIRC from XBOX.

Honestly they would have benefitted by being turned into a rare ordinary zombie.

A question re play after ending (ala Fallout 3 or The Elder Scroll series):

In the XBOX360 version, while you can load your game before last mission and roam the world freely, you will eventually run out of supplies. Is this going to change in the PC version?
