A question re play after ending (ala Fallout 3 or The Elder Scroll series):

In the XBOX360 version, while you can load your game before last mission and roam the world freely, you will eventually run out of supplies. Is this going to change in the PC version?

Pretty sure it's the same. If it's never ending gameplay you're after, soon they're going to add "sandbox mode". Basically, it's the same map with no story missions. As the map is depleted of resources, you can choose to repair an RV and when it's finished you can take a few trusted survivors and "leave" which resets the map. The reset map has a higher difficulty, so more hordes, stronger freaks, etc. As you play through sandbox mode, you unlock hero survivors which are much stronger than others.

I'm a little on the fence about this... I'd rather they just add more story missions to the main game. :(

I am sold on this! Thanks for the info.

So far... I like it.

Hmm...  I think I'll try to 'play badly' or something.

Let the hordes always build up.(Drive around the hordes, not through em...)
Walk more.
Maybe leave infestations alone, unless it pops up somewhere where I want something from it... but they are eye sores... and were really annoying neighbors.
Be a bigger asshole to other random survivors.

Zangi, you don't need to do that, the challenge really will ramp up out of control soon.

Can you quote a recent source. I heard that they were adding sandbox originally, but then I heard it wouldn't be added. I would love for it to be true, as it is the only reason I would buy it for PC too.

The Big Uns are scary bastards...  it ripped up some random Enclave NPC into two.  The poor sod had it coming though, being outside, alone.  While everyone else had the sense to be inside the building.  The other enclave survivors took off running as soon as the guy got ripped in half, I think he was the leader of that trio.  I hoofed it also, since there was no point sticking around anymore.
Can't kill em with small/medium cars.  (Havn't tried bigger ones.)

Ferals also have the huge potential to be scary...  Faced one in a 1v1 and it pinned my character down doing quite a bit of damage...  Kinda like L4D's hunter, but less auto-kill.
I don't want to face it alone, when it has zeds backing it...  So I've done a service, by taking all hunt Feral missions and running it over when possible.

Fun Tip(?): Radio in Survivors command, seems to work reliably before you start the first army mission.  After that, lots of static, I've only gone up to the 3rd/4th mission though.

EDIT: So far, turning out to be like Fort Zombie, but better.

Also, the UI for available missions need to be better.  Cause I want to know who is doing it and it is a pain to look for it again everytime.  There are people on my leave for dead list.

You can have NPC companions and such?  Are they randomized or is there a set list of people?

Yes, you can bring along companions.  It makes it a hell of a lot easier.  But... they don't seem to stay around long or something.  Not really sure.  Cause I know one time, I traveled across the map for a mission and the companion said "Time to go" or something along those lines and left me.  (I was left up shit creek trying to deal with an infestation alone, with a not so well geared newbie.)

The other way to bring along companions is when they come along for a quest/mission, but, you can't do any other missions till you let them go by finishing their quests.

Story related characters are always all the same.   Maybe some very minor differences like name for the less essential ones.
For example, the lot of people you meet at your 1st and 2nd safehouse are always the exact same.  Primary story characters, but become non-essential.  There is a rescue mission you come upon soon after that, were you get 3 survivors, always the same stats and looks, but different names.*

Everyone else outside of the story are randomized.

EDIT: *Apparently, the 3 games I started all had the same people... the 4th time around, they are now different.

I hope a sandbox mode comes out, I like the game but I don't like the premade characters.

Thankfully I've kind of unintentionally taken care of that already, mainly because the damn game won't let me take anybody on missions because they're always unwilling, tired, or doing something else at the time.  First the lady I met right away, Maya Torres, goes off while Marcus is tired, at night.  She sees something strange moving about and decides to follow it, see what's up.

Turns out it's a feral, and the panicked rifle-shooting brought a pack of zombies.  So much for Maya Torres.

Then Marcus goes to deal with an infestation, alone, because still no one wants to go with him.  Same deal, feral with a pack of zombies.  It picks him up and takes a big bite out of his side, and that's the end of Marcus.

Then Alan Gunderson puts Ed down, and all three starters are dead.  Now I'm playing a randomized lady who kicks way more ass than any of them.  When the feral came from her she dodged him and smacked him with a pipe.

You should be able to knock em off...  I've had a close shave where my Maya was pinned, but I knocked the Feral off.  There are so many horror stories of it though...  So I try not to chance it.
Another time, pinned in a mess of zombies, but NPC thankfully knocked the bastard off.

I have a controller, and I've gotten pinned and survived, it was always other zombies making things worse.

That's the rub, isn't it? One zombie is fine, even fun at parties, but all the other zombies make things worse.
