A tale from Dwarf Fortress: Zasrimad (6 min animation)
« on: September 19, 2013, 04:44:06 pm »

The story of Zasrimad, Crystaltactics. Roughly about 13 years summed into a 6 minute animation. To be continued (although slowly, this is a time consuming way to animate)...

This story is based on events in my current fortress (034.07 build) but the animation itself was made by my brother, and I helped in certain parts. Done with EasyToon program and Windows movie maker 2.6 for sounds and voice clips.

You're really talented.  If you ever consider doing a feature length film in the same vein, I'd pay to see it.

Wow. That's awesome!
Love that BW-pixelart-style, reminds me of the dawn of video games era when I was a child.

I just saw a guy with two broken legs push a minecart with a corpse in it. Yeah.

Quoting my bro who answered to a youtube comment "i did this couple of hours / day after work, sometimes there was longer pause, but generally 3 months". Lots of animation material unused, though.

I have 60 pages of recorded history in a Word document, plenty of material to use, heh. Minotaur who strangled traders with silk socks... the experimental "vampire-conscripts-to-explore-underground-caverns" test... sweet memories.

Kuikka: Look up "apple II games" and "Spectrum ZX games".  You might understand the humor more, if you consider some of us grew up playing those first.

Finished: Weatherwires, the Last Mountainhome. A tragic mix of Children of Men, City of Ember, and, uh, magma.
Stymied: Correspondence from Syrupurns, a prematurely ended narrative, told through annual updates.
In Progress: Roomcarnage, a fortress clinging to life beneath a haunted glacier.

I see, we who bornt after -88 can't really recall these gaming platforms. I guess we'll take this as a slight improvement to "looks like this was done with a calculator", ha ha ha :)! I'm glad we caught some old feeling with these animations, really. Gritty style was selected on purpose.
