Spoiler: Voted Projects (click to show/hide)

Our engineers have worked on improving our current steam engines. In the end they opt to replace the current reciprocating engines used by our current Cruiser with a steam turbine, which can be connected to the propeller shafts either by a gearbox, or with an intermediary electrical engine. While this set-up is actually slightly less powerful, it's cheaper, smaller, more fuel efficient and requires less maintenance. As such power can easily be increased by increasing the number of turbines on the ship.

This newly improved system is immediately tried out on the Protector. It provides it with a significantly increased amount of power compared to other ship's of it's size, thought the complicated gearboxes provide a weak point and are fairly expensive to create. It's 3 Heavy cannons give it a decent amount of firepower, backed up by numerous smaller cannons providing significant amount of AA fire support. Selective armoring of the hull should make the ship more resilient to enemy fire.

Several engineers spent some time to engineer our current truck engine for airplane. They manage to do so by scaling it down; reducing the weight quite a bit, which unfortunately also reduces power and efficiency. Nevertheless, the engine should suffice for our early airplanes.

Spoiler: 100 kW Aviation engine (click to show/hide)

Our engineers also produce another light biplane design. It's lighter than it's imported cousin, and has a stronger engine, but is otherwise surprisingly similar. It handles comparably, but is significantly more maneuverable. However, a test plane almost crashed when a structural element in the wing cracked under the stress. A focus on lightweight materials in the construction has made the plane fragile, and easily damaged. There's some doubt about whether you'd like to use the heavier engine, or the newly developed aviation engine.
Spoiler: Light Recon Biplane (click to show/hide)

Work on the mortar doesn't progress, and is soon halted in favor of other projects. It had a nasty tendency to explode, misfire, or don't do anything at all.

Construction of Fortifications on points of interest has commenced, though not many can be build, as there's a shortage of weaponry to install in them, in order to resolve this, 2 new factories are build. This however amounts to a significant expense on the government, which has now put a limit on your request. Barring an escalation of the current situation, no new factories will be constructed.
A small rocket test chamber has been constructed on site, at the same time, the construction of Torpedo Boats has started at our site. Our fleet should be capable of rapid expansion soon.

Crow's island receives priority, as it's an important target for our enemy[for which I have yet to find a name], as it's providing a significant amount of revenue for The People's Republic of Varnus (=us). Mines are placed on the island, and fortifications installed. The Newest weaponry is distributed amongst the island garrisons, as well as several of our cannons. While the first provides some trouble for the local population, they'll have to learn to live with it.

[Newsflash]

An enemy trawler fishing near our coast has ran into a mine, and sunk with all hands still onboard. [Enemy name here] is blaming us for the incident, and has denied us access to their waters in retribution. In effect, this has cut us off from some of smaller islands near their coast. The total inhabitants of these islands are less than thousand, and their militia is limited. It's unlikely that they'd manage to hold out in case of an attack.

Several cruisers have been spotted patrolling near our waters. Observations have been made of 4 modern Cruisers, and at least 6 older models.

[/end Newsflash]

Note: Might make a map soonish.

(( I could use a map or just a description of the island. I have some ideas for defense. Particularly the ground around any beaches fit for landing, any forests and any large hills/mountains.

Mine and vehicle design will be up tonight when I get home. ))

We really need some subs...
So here is one!

1: Undersea craft "Cod"
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
How do we do subs anyways? Like ships or what?

Other things:
A: Test oxygen/ alcohol rockets.
B: Test Hydrogen Peroxide/ heated platinum catalyst rockets.
Delta: Train Delta at the academy
2: Develop new propulsion systems based around electricity.

Submarines are boats. I mean, at this point in history they're little more than boats that can go underwater.

Allright, I will go and see if I can make the Cod look like one of the boat designs that will work for this.

We do have battery propulsion systems, right?

Here is the new design for the Cod, blatantly ripped off from germany. But hey, atleast we know this sort of thing works, right?

And because we need more cargo shipping for those poor morons on those islands, the "Bass"

The bass might need three or four truck engines, after that... it's a very interesting project, that's for sure.
For me, we now need:
- A way to resupply islands even under attack
- A fighter plane
- More anti-naval firepower
- A tank (less priority).

@Aseaheru: Could you number your proposals and structure them a bit better? Also, what should Delta train for? I'd like aviation, myself. Also, I think the rocket engine would be abstracted in a design proposal like "Build a test bed rocket with a small warhead".

For the first one, the Bass is possible. I'd much prefer a transport plane (seaplane), but we haven't got the engine for it.
Fighter plane:
4) I propose the Raven class fighter plane (large): Contrary to the crow, use more metal (as much as possible) and the heavier engine (Project 2206). Armament should be one or two project 2202 15mm machine guns, the plane itself being a biplane design.
Oh, and chose the weaker engine for the Crow. It doesn't need speed, especially if falling down otherwise.

5) The shark class patrol boat: A ca. fifty ton design:
- Mounts three project 2206 truck engines (one ton, 600kW)
- Mounts a single 40mm gun for anti-aircraft and anti-ship duties (5t)
- Mounts two torpedo tubes with two reloads each (6t + 12t)

That's 24 ton assigned. Unarmoured, fast and hopefully pretty deadly against unsuspecting or unarmed foes. Slap some 15mm MGs on it if there's room.

6) The Armadillo armoured fighting vehicle: Take the Project 2206 truck engine (one should be far, far enough), and build an armoured vehicle from it. Driver's compartment armoured 1.5cm, passenger 0.5. Mount a Project 2202 15mm machine gun on it, with the gunner standing in the driver's compartment. Six-wheeled.
Basically, make it quick and armoured enough to survive small arms fire, and armed enough to provide fire power to infantry they wouldn't otherwise have.

Oh, and lastly:
Beta (?): Produce protectors and if designed sharks.

Boats don't have costs. Construction capabilities of those is limited solely by tonnage of the dockyard involved.

I suggest we train Delta in rocketry.
As for my proposials, well, I try to structure them as well as I can.
And I would like a seaplane as well, and as sutch I propose 7: A larger aircraft powerplant, to use kerosene fuel and providing as much power as the truck one.

Yeah... that should have been obvious even to me.

Actually, our main problem is not weight or fuel, but raw power. To compare, transport aircraft engines regularly produced three to five times the power, while fighter got even higher.
So, rather 7.1: Design a kerosene engine. Balance it between raw power and fuel consumption, maybe to 600kW and about 200l/h fuel consumption
