Ì'm not sure I like the change to drugs. Especially smokeweed seems nerfed too hard. I already rarely used it because of the painful hit to speed.

Perhaps a mechanic like CDDA's hidden health stat would be an idea instead?

The negative effects from "long term" use also seem way too common and rapid onset. Social drinking will nuke a liver insanely fast.

Aww, I will miss dwarven surgery where an attempt to treat an infected wound results in a removed kidney.
Don't discount the "Ridiculous" failure category. ;)

Don't discount any of it, I had a "minor failure" result in a decapitation.

I have a husband and wife having a bit of a lovers spat. He feels slighted by her and she's upset that he keeps eating human flesh.

She wouldn't eat the Sloppy Joes I made for us.    ....From Joe.  Clearly she does not like my cooking.

Oooh dear ._. Where could I do this? Although most of my feedback isn't to the new alpha but to the differences that aren't changed (eg psychic soothe/drone for males only, non-static skill level to quality of output) that are still not changed in the alpha :P

Bonus points that despite changing area, the psychic soothe/drone is still active. For the same gender (so only males).

A muffalo calf just developed a psychite addiction. Didn't know they could even eat drugs except beer. Ah well. Now I know to forbid the drugs stockpiles as well as the beer stockpile for my animals. Muffalo calf is now beef with psychite flavour.

Heh, in other news, a trader died of a heart attack on my doorstep, just seconds before I initiated trade. I wonder if the caravan will still leave, now that their leader is dead.

Bought it this morning, playing nearly all day.

One of the most interesting characters to show up so far is Newton "Stench" Akula. He shows up one day, wearing nothing but a shiv and an metal chestplate, complaining about his lack of pants. Lucky for him, the other colonists just killed off a bandit wearing only pants. Naturally, he's complaining about the quality of the pants, plus the fact that someone died wearing them. ...They were never cleaned, not even after... you know. And it turned out he was the brother of one of the starting colonists, Wren Akula.

Some time later, his latent pyromania gets ahold of him, and Stench begins to set fires around the main farm. I can't have this, so I have him arrested, and thrown in a tomb where I found some mercs in cryo, now converted into a cell. Unfortunately, the stone blocks where I built the cell door are blocking it from closing, so after a while, Stench waltzes on out. I sent the colonist, Sarai, to arrest him again... and he waltzes out again. And again. And again while I have Wren remove the blockage. Now Stench goes berserk, and starts beating the shit out of his captor. She's got a rifle, but wasn't ordered to fire(or can't because she's in melee), but he's got better combat skills and that metal plate(which may or may not protect from melee). They exchange blow for blow, seemingly evenly matched, but not good for Sarai. I draft Wren, but not wanting to go lethal, I hesitate to order him to attack his brother. Eventually, the need to protect Sarai(the main researcher) wins out, and Wren charges his brother with a plasteel knife, cutting off his thumb. Stench is subdued and thrown back into the cell while Sarai spends several days in bed from her injuries.

Over the next few days, the nudist teacher and one of the starters - an Empath named Tanya - as both have great social skills, try to re-recruit him back. Eventually they succeed. Stench has very high opinion of Tanya, although she hates him. In fact, both women in the colony generally dislike the Akula brothers, as both have tried hitting on them constantly.

Several days later, I figure out how to send a caravan out, and do so to the nearby friendly faction base to trade, with Stench and Tanya carrying some food and ancient drugs. Right after they leave, a caravan from the same faction arrives, and one of the escorts is Wren's lover - I really hope she doesn't mind him trying to sleep with other women. Shortly after that, and escape pod crashes, containing a very injured Yazuki "Gazelle" Hughes - Stench's ex-wife! Man, Stench is going to have surprise waiting for him if he survives the trip home.

You don't have to recruit colonists you arrested, if you go into the prisoner tab and order them released they'll return to duty.
