Strange. There any other mods that you are using? What order is everything loaded in?

You have the compatability patch for Rimfire, right? Also, its probably High Caliber and Rimfire fighting it out.

What version of CR is the mod running? I'm running the Rimfire 2.1 preview for CR 1.6.4 and that might be the problem.

It has also been modified a bit, so it's more a fork of Combat Realism than a version of its own.

'scuze

I just got this game (honestly not sure why I haven't sooner) and I was wondering, before I start a game, if there's any sort of 'essential' mods (I.E. Dwarf Therapist-likes) I should be using. I'm hoping to keep the game as vanilla as possible content-wise for now.

Also, OP hasn't been updated in ages, which makes me sad.

I would say that Combat Realism is essential, but thats because once you use it the basic combat system feels even more bland than normal.

But then, Im one of those people who does not see the need for dwarf therapist. Honestly, the numerical priority system for priorities in Rimworld feels fine to me. Plus, you can directly interact with colonists, which helps a hell of a lot.

Oh! The community Resource Pack thingie they have, thats really good. Mostly the tweaks section of it, which has things like refrigerated hoppers for the food processor and makes it so that most machines dont draw power when not in use. Plus, its needed for most mods, including CR.

The Colonist Bar is the only one I'd call 'essential'.  Manager is also nice, but not as important.  It mostly helps with livestock.  Combat Realism is very popular, but it's an overhaul mod, which changes core mechanics.  Colonist Bar and Manager don't change mechanics, they just make them more accessible.  Oh, and the Allow Tool - you'll save a TON of time unforbidding things.

Aside from that, 'less incident trolling' is also amazing.  Vanilla gives you a ton of incidents like solar flares, blights, broken doors, etc, which will all drain your supplies and be generally cheatingly frustrating.  Exploding wires are possibly the stupidest thing...

Yep always fun when you have a very large base with 20 or 30 folks and a massive battery system to supply the place with power, and one wire fritz and it's like a nuclear bomb went off.

Is there even a cap on how big a wire explosion can get?  I could swear I had one create a 10 tile wide unstoppable inferno at one point.   New deathtrap. 100 batteries fully charged outside the base on a separate grid. wait til the invaders show up and find some way to trigger an electrical boom.  Instant invader BBQ.

The size of the explosion is directly related to the amount of power currently stored in batteries.  Having no batteries means explosions are impossible.  Explosions always occur on a wire, not on a device, not on batteries or other devices with built-in wires.  If you leave an electrical device in the rain, it'll explode, but it'll only create a standard explosion, not scaled.

Honestly, a better way to harness explosions against raids is the IED trap.  They'll detonate other IEDs within explosion range, and can result in some stupid chain reactions.

Um, It's been awhile since I played vanilla but don't wire explosions only occur when the batteries get hot and or wet.  I keep mine all in their own little freezer-closet at -5C and I've not had a battery or wire explosion in longer than I can remember.

I think they're talking about the event which fires randomly and discharges your stored energy as an explosion. It's not tied to temperature or anything like that, just happens whenever the game decides you've not had enough fun recently.

if you have exposed wires there's an event that may trigger on dry thunderstorms which supercharges your batteries. I also think high load compared to production may trigger a short circuit from one heavy user (like, coolers or sun lamps) with same results. hard to tell actual triggers, also lucky is involved.
