Chucking in a comment, as I heard about this thread last night:

Have the effect of cannibalism go down over time and then regain its effect if they dont have it for a while, add a "cannibal" trait that does the opposite (sadder when no human food, happy when human food), nutrient dispensers remove the thought (afterall, its just paste.)

This is due to an arse who WOULD NOT SHUT UP ABOUT IT during a Rimworld stream.

There was a mod that added mechanoids and improved the routing system with regions and made the AI better?

Because the wood economy stuff probably took them a few hours at most. That region system is amazing though. Brilliant really.

He released the mod system in early alpha so people could start modding.
And now he should get punished for it because people actually used the system.
Of course he isn't using any of the actual mod code.

This is why we can't have nice things. I sure hope opinions like these are in the minority.

Releasing mods in alpha will inevitably result in modders modding in intended features, as those are the ones that are most sorely missing.

My favorite is the crematorium (tho piling bodies on the desert and throwing molotovs at them had its charm)

To be quite honest, I don't see the issue with developers incorporating third-party modifications into their core code. If anything, it should be applauded as it suggests the developer listens to (and likes) player ideas.

Developers + Fan Modders = Awesomeness.

I don't think the developers need to provide money to the third party modders, but they should include their names as contributors and ask their permission first.

I would say that 99.999% of the time, modders would be more than happy for a developer to include their modifications for free with an acknowledgement as it gives them free publicity and something else to add to the 'portfolio' or CV.

If I was a modder, I'd be more than happy for a developer to do the above as it gives me something to hold up to prospective employers and shout "my mod was so good, the developer integrated it into the main game".

I agree. And as someone who has modded a fair number of games, I'd never object to a game developer taking my mod and making stuff from it official. On the contrary, I'd be thrilled!
