The world still has no purpose right? I mean once you've set up your colony in a sector, the rest of the generated world is useless?

As a sidenote:

Does anyone use the default map size? Up to this version I've been using the largest, but I just tried using the default again and it feels a bit cramped, like you have to build right next to the edge where raiders spawn.

Heck, the way the comms and faction relationship system is set up already says to me that deeper interactions with factions are in the works.

One thing I'd like to see would be a succession system a la Elona, where upon victory, you can select three of your colonists for use in new games, complete with all of the skills they had at the end of the one they were in.

On that note, I like the idea  of sending out groups of people to go to new areas, but would like the idea of larger groups and gear being able to be sent in return for less starting resourses, and possibly a harder difficulty. And if you could switch between the settlements, like the retirement thing for DF, well, that would add to the fun if/when reproduction or something was added, particularly if it did things in your absence... And research continued on. It would probally need tons of tweaks to not be OP...

Hell, I just want to send ten dudes with charge rifles and lotsa skills to the arctic to build a base...

Doesn't where you are in the map determine which factions visit you? Rimworld's I game I'm thinking of getting, so I've only seen other people playing it and haven't myself.

Yeah you got me... I've barely tried the latest versions but haven't had time to really go deep and make a proper fortress.

Yeah you got me... I've barely tried the latest versions but haven't had time to really go deep and make a proper fortress.
Current version allows you to retire fortresses, making them world sites, and being able to reclaim them later.

Hm, ok, so I started getting complaints about sleeping in the heat, and was worrying I would have to put a cooler in each room (they use a LOT of power), luckily heat transfers between rooms somewhat and surrounding all my bedrooms with a corridor and cooling it to 21ºC will make the inner rooms equalize to about 24-25 (right now the corridor is a bit big with 8 bedrooms so it only cools to about 24ºC with the bedrooms around 27-28ºC which is apparently enough to be comfortable, if it heats any more I'm going to have to add a second cooler).

I find that having the freezer at -10 is enough until the summer (normally it fluctuates between that and -7), I'm setting it at -20 just in case because it sometimes for an unknown reason goes up above 0.

There's a mod, the "enhanced defense" one, that adds vents.  When powered, they equalize the temperature between two rooms.  You could definitely use that as a better way to handle central heating.

what is the current state of the early access and are the developers rapidly adding content? Some games are more alpha than others. For example I see nothing but complaints about Starbound on the steam forums. What do you guys think of the progress of Rimworld?

If you like Dwarf Fortress or Gnomoria, you'll like Rimworld.  It also has a pretty active modding community, which adds a lot.  I've gotten my money's worth from it.

It's going forth at a decent rate. The amount of actual content is a little low in comparison to, say, Prison Architect, but the game is definitely fun and challenging.
