That's. Not how engines work.

You should really look to the wilderness for your stealth ideas, it has been doing it much longer than you have after all. Take squids for example, that ink trick works pretty well, and in water too! So you just sneak into the dam upsteam, dump several megatons of distressed squid into it, then break the dam. Boom, you suddenly have enough water-proof stealth for a whole city!

Nah mate you just press the upgrade button on the engine. It's next to the 'implement multiplayer' button and the 'make multithreaded' button. Underneath the 'fix all bugs' lever.

Think RimWorld is a Unity game and it would be a chance to migrate to using DOTs if they stuck with Unity, which has more optimization and multithreading oppurtunities than classic GameObjects did.

But if there's no fundemental architectural improvements you can make that increase performance, a fresh start only really lets you throw away bad decisions you made that you still have to keep working for backwards compatibility (and instead make a new set of bad decisions!).

I imagine that RimWorld 2 is probably in development, as Rimworld is probably at risk of losing profit in the Unity pricing scheme.
It's probably why we got Cthulu goes to Rimworld over more useful DLCs like "Vehicles" or "Support for multiple colonies"

Which? The one they walked back of "You have to pay for every download"?

I mean, damage done on that front, nobody's going to use it any more. That's what you get for going with an EA CEO I guess.

Its where the market wants to move.  Charge people per use, per month, per sub.  Scrap a little (or a lottle) off of every transaction.  Apple does it with their appstore, google does it with views, honestly I dont know how EA works, but I know their general model well.

Even the 'distribute it for free then suddenly 'rug pull'' is a general strategy in the market.  The whole gig market during covid was 'become so big people rely on you'.  Reddit wanted to or did start charging for its own formerly free software.

...

...

NEways, when can we expect them to start charging microtransactions for positive events?  "Y'arr, we're the dread pirates of Muffalo!  Give us 400 smecklebucks (0.55usd) or we'll drop into your kitchens!"

Pretty sure EA has a subscription model of some description now. I think it offers discounts on games? I have zero interest in giving money to them so I haven’t looked into it.

Might be the same with Ubisoft now too.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So... Randy had been going very easy on me and, as it turns out, he was cooking something.

First I got an alert about a horde of sightstealers approaching. I ignored this because who would be afraid of some skinny boys. They took some time to appear, and I pretty much forgot about them. A few days after the sightstealer warning, a swarm of devourers appeared. I mobilized my mobile artillery, which was absolute garbage - it ran out of fuel without even going halfway through the map, took way too long to shoot, and missed all shot by significant margin. It did do a good job tanking devourer bites though, before getting destroyed.

Halfway through the attack, sightstealers revealed themselves, pouring from between the amphibious menace, as well as flanking from the sides. With advanced weaponry and gene-modded pawns, I was able to repel the freaks, then I went to exterminate the ones that snuck into the base proper. There were no casualties, though some people got badly wounded. Then, just as I finished bringing the wounded to the hospital, a second sightstealer horde warning appeared.

That one showed up almost immediately and was seemingly endless. When I thought I was done with them, more appeared. I'm so glad they're so flimsy. Still no dead colonists, and one freak captured to (temporarily) replace the nociosphere that served me so well before departing.

The tribals sent allies to help with a raid we dealt with a full day ago. They loitered for a little bit, two of them absolutely battered each other during a social fight, and one of them did a rail of psycho overdosed and immediately died. Truly we are grateful for their friendship.

I just remembered why I don't usually play cannibal colonies. Over 100 banditos dropped down, over half of which got killed. Since it's winter, they won't really rot, and I would feel bad letting their skin go to waste. Looks like some of my pawns will have to go on a road trip with all this human meat. I just wish loading vehicles was faster.

Liked playing tribals more than playing current-tech, but hated how difficult it was to get anything done.

The game is designed to constantly put pressure on you and assumes you'll take the appropriate measures.  Measures tribals often just dont have.

I dunno man, that seems an appropriate amount of human flesh.

So today in "things I didn't know were an option": Character threw a tantrum and started to beat up some corpses. I feel like this can be utilised as a form of corpse disposal. Maybe I need a tantrum room filled with corpses and a mostly-useless pawn to occasionally cry and beat the dead bodies into oblivion.
