: "Huh?" Chance scratched his head, bewildered. He pondered the situation a moment before simply sitting back down and taking a drink from his mug, "Just what have I signed up for here..?"

Kester turns away from Cora as she approaches, pouting to himself. He cradles a mug full of spiced cider, though much to the young man's sorrow, it doesn't have even a drop of alcohol in it. Probably.
When he speaks to the woman, there is no ice or bite in his words, nor any sign of his usual self-assured attitude. Instead, there is anxiety and a curious hollowness in his voice. Almost as if the boy expects more 'harsh' words to follow up, and is trying to hole up inside himself to avoid their sting.

: "What do you want, Cora? I'm trying to...to...I'm trying to have a drink here. Yeah..."

He sniffs, sipping the warm mug and staring at the counter top sullenly.

[Parsely]

((Aw! :c))

: Aw! *cough* Er, I mean.. Well.. Sorry about.. What I said..

Cora mumbles ineffectually. She looks around for something to help.

: Uhhh, uh hmm.. Ah! Aha! Beer! We can drink beer! You want some beer Kester? Hey! Two beers! What?! Nah he's fine! He can hold it!

Kester raised his head to look at Cora blankly for a second before his eyebrows came together in mild confusion as he stopped moping to process what she said. Then his shoulders managed to slump even more, somehow, and he muttered almost unintelligebly as he watched his mug swirl.

[Parsely]

Cora takes the beers.

: _Thanks. ..They're not for you.. They're for me. Get it..?

Cora smiles slyly and pours the contents of one of the beers into his cider mug. She winks and takes a swig.

Kester's eyes widened slightly, and he tilted his head to one side as he looked at Cora, slightly confused. Why would she do something like that for him? He wasn't worth the cost of the beer...before he can do more than grit his teeth in self-pity, he takes a sip from the 'cider' and makes a face. The boy'd forgotten the taste of alcohol. But the cider's sweetness made up for it, and he took a longer drink before speaking again.

: "...Thanks. But...why? You shouldn't waste your time on a kid like me..."

}}Chapter 1: Visitors at the gate{{

Two days had passed since the fight with the Gaiakin, and things had begun to settle down after the commotion of the girl who crash landed being brought to the town. The pilots had gathered at the usual table in the Inn, surrounded by a quiet buzz from the travelers seated throughout the room.

 Since the day of the crash the girl had not shown many signs of a recovery, other than the occasional shifting in her sleep indicating that she was still  functioning. Her headwound was barely noticeable now thanks to the town healer,  having faded to a slightly darkened space of discoloration on her forehead.

"Gryke should have reached the castle by now. I expect we shall hear back from him very soon. Then hopefully we'll be able to send the girl back to them without any complications."

[Powder Miner]

:"I certainly hope so."

[Parsely]

: About time.

Cora sipped her beer. She catches Kester's eye and grins mischievously, remembering the night she got him drunk for the first time.

[Furtuka]

At that moment a muffled patter of footsteps came from above the patrons heads. A girl who worked at the inn came running downstairs, stopping and leaning over to catch her breath before making her way to the pilots table. "The girl you found. She's woken up."

[Powder Miner]

Aqi moves towards the stairs, with merely an
:"Oh!"

[Parsely]

: Are you alright..?

[Furtuka]

"Huh? I'm... fine thank you. I just ran a bit too fast. I'll be fine in a moment"


Flint stood up and headed towards the stairs with Aqi, gesturing for the rest of the team to follow him.

: "Well, let's go greet the sleepyhead, I guess..."
