Forgotten Beast moved through fortifications (maybe)
« on: September 14, 2013, 04:50:31 am »

Above my first-level cavern I have a firing point carved out and manned with marksdwarves. They look over the entrance below and shoot any naughties that come too close.

So, Forgotten Beast (a flyer) spawns, and starts killing off my naked mole dogs. It starts moving towards the entrance and then I lose track of it. I decide to see if my marksdwarfs are doing anything, and when I look at their shooty hole it turns out the forgotten beast is already in there.

I have a screenshot and will try to work out where to host it if you guys want, but for now I'm just wondering if anything like this ever happened to anyone else.

People have said that flyers can move diagonally between levels, so if your shooting point looks something like this (side view):

Code: [Select]
####             <- upper wall
####
  A X B               <- X=fortification, A=archer, B=beast
########    <- lower wall / floor

Then the best can fly through the diagonal gap from above the fortification to behind the fortification.

I was also thinking that that's a possibility, but it is carved out of the rock, so there are two possibilities:
Either the game counts rock carved into fortification as not sitting on top of a [natural rock] floor or,
The Beast managed to somehow squirm its way through a fortification.
