two civs of the same type, do they interact at all?

Like would you see two dawrf civs, or human civs, etc, interact with eachother? or is it only with species that are different?

If someone were to mod out all but one civ, then generate a world, we could see for sure.

thank you so far everyone. i was just curious to see if ethics meant if the more similar or different they are was what increased the chances of interacting.
