The Blood Moon Guard should swear a blood oath to us and absolutely no-one else. Not our father, not our brothers, not our sisters, not even our future children. They will live and die to serve us and
only us.
Of course, this would be rather difficult without making ourselves to be some sort of god and creating zealotry within the population (which always, ALWAYS backfires); this is why we may want to consider a Spartan program to raise them in. Who'll object? We are the prince after all. We'll recruit orphans for it since there'll be nobody close to them to object and at least this way they have some sort of life. Sure they'll spend their lives as warriors but on the flip-side they get money, food, status and all manner of good thing. One thing that should be mentioned is that the Blood Moons are NOT knights. The children will not waste their time cleaning armour or polishing swords or playing servants to higher ranking military men. They will train and they will fight and they may get free time but they are NOT servants.
That's not to say that Blood Moons will necessarily have to come from the Spartan program. They just have to be exceptional fighters with an undying loyalty to us. We can use magic to determine if their loyalty to us really is true and undying. Heck, if there are already enough of these normal recruits then a Spartan program won't even be necessary.
Marriage, of course, will be out of the question for the Blood Moons. Their loyalties may waver between us and their beloved or their children if they eventually have them....... IDEA! If they end up having children, the Blood Moon who sired them will suffer the punishment detailed below and the child will be taken as his replacement. The mother will be
privately and discreetly executed and the identity of the new Blood Moon's parents shall not be revealed.
Any Blood Moons who break the rules of the Blood Moons will be subjected to
this as well as branded on his forehead to show his outcast nature.
The Blood Moons
must be common. Nobles are quite simply not suited to the type of pledge we ask of the Blood Moons what with their family loyalties and quasi-celebrity statuses.
Blood Moon Guards must choose to join voluntarily unless they come from the Spartan program.
Finally, all active Blood Moons (Spartan recruits don't count) shall be completely and entirely freed of their oath upon our death. They can do whatever they want at that point. Examples: they can become a baker, or a mercenary, or apply for the new Blood Moon Guard should our successor continue the practice. Our successor should NOT automatically inherit our bodyguard. The guards that served us have the right to not join the new guard if they so desire.
