Still didn't get the requested routing information about visiting that noble trying to marry off the two daughters, or our mother's family, on the way back from Penrod's place.

Also, I think we should tell our mother to be wary on the off chance Sekhom does try something, and give her temporary legal control of our share of the business, but other than that we should give him significant power over our operations. We want to know if he is trustworthy, and the best way to find that out about somebody is to trust them. He needs our support for the Keshlan cause, and may be trying to set us up with his daughter; I highly doubt stabbing us in the back is in his best interests.

In fact, speak with him before departure, listen to his ideas for the guild and Keshla, share with him your own, and tell him you will be ready to focus on these mutual ambitions upon your return. Tell him you are interested in parlaying your liquid assets into a better business foothold in the meantime, and ask him to help your mother accomplish that in our absence.

Also ask why his dauther is coming and if she will be a third representative?

EDIT: what kind of wife should we take by the way? I'm not talking about the ones on board per say but what qualities/traits should we seek out?

We're good at poloticking and making money very well. Oh an a solidly known scholar for our age. Which is basically all of the administrative duties a king requires. Or maybe we want someone that can do that better or as good so we can focus on other stuff like being a good warrior/general like our father?

Again i'm not saying we should PICK from what we have on the trip or already known rather we should try to find traits to put into a pool of girls we'd like. If they have land or are destined to own lad in the future that's a plus but not exactly what we may want. IDK just a thought.

EDIT: Another question sorry. GM is it the father who handles the passing away of people or the mother? Or is it a mutual task for them both?

Eh. Best not. Could be awkward.

Smart, charismatic, has at least the physical strength for travel, is not an asshole, doesn't squander money, loyal, is related to powerful people, around our age (more leeway if she's older).

Still didn't get the requested routing information about visiting that noble trying to marry off the two daughters, or our mother's family, on the way back from Penrod's place.
The update said that only Uncle Robby's and Sir Raymond's places are on the way. Check the spoiler tag at the bottom of the update.

Also, I think we should tell our mother to be wary on the off chance Sekhom does try something, and give her temporary legal control of our share of the business...
+1 This seems wise, after all Sekhom's shown what an underhanded cur he can be and the last thing we want is for her to unwittingly give ultimate power over our assets to Sek-
... but other than that we should give him significant power over our operations.
God damn it. -1. THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA FOR SO MANY REASONS. How about this for a trust exercise: if we come back and he HASN'T killed our mother, killed our bodyguard, ruined our name, had us banished, and stolen all our money, trading partners, and business assets, THEN we can maybe start to trust him. Jesus Christ... stepping stones, man.

I loled at andres statement at the end. Funny yet not overly aggressive. Good show.

while I agree that he shouldn't ever see our business sheet or partners info. This is a side project for us to grow and develop administrative skills at, something hard to do without a title. However, how is he going to banish us? An although mother and father aren't eye to eye o doubt assassinating her would be wise. If caught it would mean the end of support for him, seizures left right and center, AND a witch hunt for killing a VERY important person on the king.

Stealing partners or assets and slimming a bit of money? Ya he could DEFINITELY do that if he were in charge, but not dear ole mommy :)

Also guys it hasn't got there yet I think but remember that fighting in sg tend to make gm quit. Keep it civil or pm stuff if absolutely necessary.

Jesus Christ... stepping stones, man.

I just gave reasons as to why I am fairly sure he wont act out against us, but I can give more. All else aside, he is a displaced person, and a guest of the Kingdom of Analysse. We are a prince, and possibly a future king, of said kingdom. He isn't going to start offing nobles, especially nobles who have offered to help him win his home back. Doing so would bring terrible backlash against not only him, but his entire race, and he does not strike me as stupid enough to risk that.

Perhaps he might try to rip off us much, much, much, later, but for now he needs us far more than we need him. There are several other lands to conqueror, and even many non-military ways to build our own power and reputation. Foreign Princes kind enough to be one's business partner, and risk taking up one's cause, are far harder to come by.

He might have the money, intelligence, and ambition to be dangerous, but for now, and for the foreseeable future, we are his meal ticket.

That said, I could be dead wrong. Its been awhile. I'll go back and re-read our interactions with Sekhom.

How/why would he do this to us?
No idea. I was just saying what was going through my head at the time but you never know, it could somehow happen in some way or another.

Reasons.
You make some very good points there actually. We have gotten to know each other a little better and I doubt the Keshlan Merchant Guild would approve of Sekhon if he started going off at us. Conversely they may decide that our assets would better serve their cause if they were in the hands of a true Keshlan, though I'm pretty sure the former case is truer. Still, let's just be a bit wary for now. Even if we did leave it to him and everything went fine people might think we don't learn from our mistakes and will think poorly of us.
("The first time he left his money alone it was stolen by a Keshlan. Then he thinks the best way for it to not get stolen is to give it to the SAME Keshlan? It all worked out for him in the end but it's still stupid if you ask me...")

Befriend Vukhara (Sekhon's daughter). If Sekhon were to have an 'unfortunate accident' then all his wealth would presumably fall to his one and only heir. If we've befriended her beforehand she might come to us for help with her new problems. This could allow us to have greater influence over both her considerable assets and the Keshlan Merchants, and we can also be genuinely nice and fulfil her father's dreams, help her through a tough time, teach her how to manage her wealth, and all that (because if we befriend her then we'll be friends and that's what friends do for each other).
BTW, when I say 'unfortunate accident' I don't mean we assassinate him; he really could die a number of different ways and it's best to form a contingency in case of that.

Nobody has to know where our money is going, or where Sekhon will be getting the Money from. This isn't set in the information age, it should be hard to track. Furthermore, we wont be giving it all to him, some will be given to Barrick to fuel whatever schemes he has to grow our force in town, assuming we choose to do that.

Furthermore, we will be giving our mother some power as well to keep him in check, and I honestly can't think of anybody else who is marginally on our side who has a better skill set for running things busniesswise. The hedge mage, perhaps, but his business is small and he might not have experience with something as big as a guild. Honestly, if we want to have our wealth work for us while we are gone, trusting Sekhon is pretty much our best option, like it or not.

Also, if we can trust him in the long run, he may be of use to us against the concubine. I vaguely remember she comes from some sort of merchant background, so economic warfare could be a thing.

This is a good idea. I have a few vague ideas on how we can use her, but we might as well get to know her first. At the very least, as long as we at least pretend she is in the running to be our future wife, we have something else to hold over her father's head.

I still don't think he should see our assets and other financial info simply because he COULD sell it to say Robilard or the Concubine (who is partly kelshan btw).

Basically, sell us short and make us weak so other contendors have a better chance and still have political asylum in Annalyse. Only now with more hand over fist money that he may jump at if it's large enough. Remember that Robilards owns quite a bit of land and having the crown. Land he could use to squeeze wealth out of to entice Sekhom with.

The concubine also has a small trade fleet dedicated to spice trade (which sounds like an awesome money maker especially now that all Kelshan goods are in low supply and possibly high demand) that could be used to entice Sekhom also.

I'm not saying they WILL but they COULD use him against us, so let's just keep him as a partner for our joint ambitions of Kelsha.

This could be good. Let's do that during the trip though not now when we have...ALOT to talk about with the King and than convince our mother the Queen to help us with our assets.

Maybe if we're done with the above and this:
Let mother manage our assets with some help. Make sure Sekhon isn't the 'help'.

Bring the recruits along for training.

Stop at Sir Raymond's on the way. We might be able to get even more worthless trinkets from his subjects (unlikely due to poverty but still), and since the trip'll be longer we have more time to socialise with the other party members.

Stop at Uncle Robilard's on the way. Because what's the worst that could happen? His request to visit did seem a tad bit urgent. Better be sure to do this on the return trip though. Robbo and Penrod hate each other.

At some point on the journey, practice scrying to get to the next skill level. This is based on the idea that we're close to achieving it (I don't know where the update that said this). Practice it away from the camp and be sure to not scry on the camp itself. We have a bunch of mages with us and we don't want them noticing they're being spied on.

Have Barrick stay behind. We need someone to keep an eye on our mother. She'll be handling our finances which paints a target on her for assassination. He's also been with us for a while so if Mother's about to do something we wouldn't like Barrick has small chance of stopping it. Also, have Barrick do this:
However, we could probably offer some old-timers (or middle-aged, whatever) from the guards who are pretty low-ranked.

Find a new sparring trainer. Not just sparring partners - we have plenty potential on those. We need someone to tell us what to do, what we're doing wrong, how to do things better, etc. Best not trouble Verack with this since his Analyssian is too poor to communicate this stuff to us and he'll be training the recruits. Maybe Sir Walter since he'd have to be pretty good to be a Crown Knight. Not Eric, he's new at being a Crown Knight and training us would mean that he might want some space from us afterwards, so we can't more actively get him on our good side by socialising. Speaking of which...

Get Eric on our good side. We talk and do stuff with him like we do with everyone else but if that's not enough we up the ante and focus on him more.

EDIT: If Eric offers to be our trainer just accept if we haven't found one by the time he asks us.

Ascertain personalities of betrothal options.

Thank Penrod for sorting out the Gerand Problem.

Ask Verack about retainership. Ask specifically what he wants. What new facilities? What new equipment? Mention the new name and the other retainer upgrades:
Retainer Upgrades
  • Rename 'Silver Moon Mercenary Company' to 'Royal Silver Moon Company'
  • A crest. A silver crescent moon in the centre. RSMC printed in silver above the moon; print must be smaller than the moon, but large enough to be easily read. Background: darkish grey.
  • Order tabards made with logo adorning front and back. Distribute to full members. Full moon instead of crescent moon for the captain. Recruits just get a darkish grey tabard.
  • Order large tapestry with the logo made to adorn training area.

We can hold a private discussion with Vukhara and the Kelshan Reps. We'll talk about what we know about Adalbert, Korinberg, the Baron from our last trip that offered to train troops (which are supposedly the best around in that area according to him. We should ask Penrod about that baron (who we never got his name past "local baron who trains the best halbadiers). While at it ask them about what Kelsha was like and there histories/what they did before the war, during the war, and how they got here. Good way to break the ice. Again if the above is satisfied an the trip isn't yet on the way we should do this. Or do it on the trip whatever works best.

EDIT: Just saw Weird's post and you've basically convinced me IF mother can't manage it on her own. If she says she can't or not very well because of other duties/not knowing much about running guilds, than yeah have her and Barrick be the other parties that overwatch our wealth along with Sekhon.

+1 to everything 3man75 said. Including the final Sekhon Asset Control plan.

At the very least, as long as we at least pretend she is in the running to be our future wife, we have something else to hold over her father's head.
We should play the 'I Might Marry Your Daughter' game with Sekhon but with Vukhara herself I think we should play the 'Hey, Let's Be Friends Because We Have So Much In Common Or Something' game. The first game should be played with greater subtlety than the second. The first should prevent Sekhon from making any moves against us. The second game has us gain the trust and loyalty with a possibly important player which we can use later on, but without all the strings that come with the 'I Might Marry You' game.

Feel it out. The fact that she is tagging along may mean her father has her playing the 'try and win the Princes' heart' game herself.

Perhaps. I vaguely recall there was something a bit off about the circumstances of her joining us, but I could be wrong about that. Even if I am, however, there is a fair chance she possesses enough of her father's ambition and wit to want us, or that her father possesses enough ambition and wit to use her as a pawn.

Next time on princeship....

Raynor: Vulkhara, I'm going to have a meeting soon. I'd like you and your father's representatives including the military man I hear about. Could you arrange it?

Vulkhara: Yes Prince, what is it for?

Raynor: On my knowledge of Adalbert and my thirst to know more of Kelsha. Consider this a cultural discussion, on what we should expect.

Vulkhara: ...I see. I'll go get the others.

Raynor: Good, an thank you i know this is very much short notice but ive been wanting to have this sit down for awhile now.

Discuss every thing we know about Adalbert, one of the reps can translate and we can learn a bit of Kelshan in this discussion. Answer questions and then ask about Kelsha. What was it like before the civil war, who leads the revolutionaries (we don't know the leaders name, an any other prominent leaders in that faction), how did Kershaw unite, are there different sub groups?, What do they know about the other factions specifically in terms of there leadership/goals, and what kind of troop types would be most invaluable and what other troops could be keys to victory. Ask of the factions are known to assassinate individuals or brutally execute captives.

Mlamlah, what's the marrying age for Analyssians, Adalbertians, and Keshlans? Are the marrying ages different for males and females in some of those lands?
