Agree about the under dog thing also. Anyone else up for a head on fight for our honor? Than asking how he knew? I think our brother may have tipped him off. Or the concubine. Or whoever it is wants our bodyguard dead for foiling there attempts on our life.

Edit: Also when we fight him let's use our youthful agility on a non stop blitz like Carrick did on the tourney to overpower him. If it feels like he's too tightened up, then move around quick enough to keep him off balanced followed by more blitz attacks. It's our only chance to win.

How he knew what? Barrick didn't directly stop us dying, and it's unlikely too many knew he paid people to protect us.

This is how I think the whole duel thing should go down:

Call him out for cowardice. Hint you want him to withdraw. Don't directly tell/ask him. E.g. "..... and on top of that you say you'll only withdraw is if my best bodyguard is locked up? Right after I was nearly KILLED when he wasn't around?"

If that doesn't work:
Challenge HIM to a duel for Serles. Real weapons, first to draw blood, no maiming or killing. Keep the duel private. Play it like you're doing it out of gratitude for his saving your life, and that you'll show what happens when you're facing your opponent head-on. This'll stop Serles from looking like he needs to be protected. He's bigger and stronger than us so best to use our Youthful Agility to its maximum and to keep dodging attacks. We may not be able to block too many. It would also be fun to see how combat would be like in this game (turn-by-turn, beginning-to-end, etc.)

If he refuses that too:
Accept the duel to the death. Appoint Varick of the Silver Moon Company as your champion. In this case make the duel more public (no rabble, just nobles). He has the best chance out of anyone at beating him, there's little political repercussions if he loses (he's just a merc after all) and nobody important dies (there are other mercs in the company who can take his place). If he wins the matter is settled and our merc company looks awesome and we can increase its clientèle. We also get to see him use his bitching claymore. If tournament duels aren't covered in the mercenary contract (they should though, I think) then offer him a small reward if he wins and pay his medical bills if he's injured. If he loses, he's dead, and we pay nothing. Heck we may not even have to pay it out of our own pocket. Just throw it in with the tournament expenses or something.

Mlamlah, are dirty moves such as spitting and throwing sand in a duel considered cowardly? If it is then we might still get away with it what with being 13 and all.

I'm sure Mlamlah is nice and reasonable enough to allow us to decide our actions as the situation develops.

Edit: IDEA! We should get a dog. They'll protect us in battle, they'll warn us of unseen dangers, they can detect poison, and the more terrifying the dog the more terrifying we'll appear by extension. The dog can also be used for tracking - following a fleeing assassin or helping our bodyguards find us when we inevitably get kidnapped. Plus the ladies love dogs. ;)

Double Edit: We can get the dog false teeth, and ENCHANT THE TEETH TO BITE THROUGH STEEL.

Mlamlah, can magic help in the training of animals?

That might work but Barrick was also a lot bigger and stronger than us and could back up his flurry of blows with POWER. We also don't have any training in that particular fighting style either. Trying to replicate that against UNNAMED ADALBERTIAN KNIGHT (that's what I'm calling him now) won't work. +1 to consensus though.

Idea: We should get a rogue/ninja type bodyguard. The knight stops bandits from running in and taking us, mage prevents mind-rape and hypnosis, but we don't have anyone to stop an assassin from slitting our throats in the dead of night. Nor do we have our own assassin to slit thorats in the dead of night either now that I think about it...... Oh and it would complete our bodyguard trio of Knight, Mage, Rogue as well. Soon they'll become best friends and we'll be like the hobbit or mascot of the group and we'll all be best friends forever and ever.

Andres that's really all we have on this unnamed foe, besides Barrick HAS trained us to versatile so we have a small shot. Again we wont win but at least we're showing back bone against this adalbertian knight.

Also the mage and knight are with us temporarily, we're going to have to find others willing to be our body gaurds. Which shoudn't be too hard we are after all a prince and not hard to get along with.

In fact we did have a conversation with some mages so maybe when they finish there studies we could ask them to accompany us as body guards. Knights are a plenty but rouges? IDK how do we know there on our side? Barrick is a mercenary who could best prevent assassinations as he did twice. One with the bomber man who killed himself and one that involved him hiring some street roughs to shadow us around and make sure we wouldn't die from something like this.

You make very good points. I concede.

If we start distributing some to some of the youths we visit (think sons of counts, dukes, etc.) we could increase their loyalty (and dependency) to us. We could also make some of our more adult opponents appear insane or incapable (we should be careful with this. If we do this to too many people they may suspect that someone is poisoning them.)
Forget about this idea. If we get caught dealing domestically our support among the nobles, the people, and especially the king will probably plummet.
We could probably even straight-up weaponise the stuff. Light up some of the herbs, get a circle of mages to blow the wind in the right direction and bingo presto we just decreased the fighting capability of a few thousand soldiers. We can also use it on the coven of Keshlian mage rebels for even greater effect. If they can't focus when they're casting their spells they're useless.

Still gonna need info on this if we're gonna get anywhere with them. But I'm sure Mlamlah is hard at work on his update and will answer any and all the lore questions that remain unanswered from the past few pages, for Mlamlah is great and benevolent. ;) (Don't strain yourself though. It's fine if you don't wanna focus on lore for a while.

Before anyone calls me out for being dry i'd like to point out that smoking herbs at this period wasn't illegal but the hallucigenics would get to people making them seem possesed. Ever seen a junkie not get his fix? it's bad. Can we just use herbs for meds and go into that buisness for moneys sake? just for money? just for good herbs for when we need to make a salve for ourselves? I want to rp as a noble prince and this is really a good story without drugs.

Not sure what this slang means. Is it a Bay12 term to mean 'unimaginative' or 'boring', or is it maybe an American term for 'dislikes drugs' or 'doesn't do drugs', or maybe something else?

Also that particular slang i got from real life here in america. I guess it could mean "dosen't like drugs" but i heard another slang for that. It's called straight X, or no drugs at all. That straight X phrase was given to me by a stoner in h.s 2 years ago during senoir year, not sure how current it is now though. I don't keep up with superficial kids and there YOLO life.

Hey, umm, so our ship. It was kind of a dump so we named it after dearest daddy's contemptuous concubine but now that we're upgrading it and making it more.... pristine, should we consider renaming it? Unless we intend to use it as a fire boat or maybe just set it on fire or something. I've heard that IRL it's bad luck to rename a boat though.
