What I mostly need at the moment is interface stuff: buttons, backgrounds, bars, icons, etc.

That sort of thing is easy enough, depending on the level of complexity. Backgrounds are dependent on what you want - no beautiful space vistas painted in loving detail with a tablet from me, while a nice minimalist texture or spiffy title splash is doable - but the rest is almost certainly within my ability to do.

PM me more detail on what exactly you need; I'll let you know what I can and can't do. A lot depends on how you plan on programming the interface and whatnot. Dimensions and a general style, at the least. The more information and detail you give, the better it will work out. Reworking the graphics can be an absolute headache at the best of times and a nightmare at the worst. :P

Ah, odd bugs, how I missed thee.

What you see right there is random data left in the RAM being scooped up and turned into a form it shouldn't be turned into. I'm actually quite suprised that I can see so many of them actually, since they should only be seen if a particular int is 0, 1 or 2.

Also, negative numbers are the spawn of satan, and will consume your soul.

EDIT: Correct way to do math with numbers.

Division by 10:
Positive number: n/10
Negative number: ((n+1)/10)-1

Remainder of division by 10:
Positive number: n % 10
Negative number: ((n % 10)+10) % 10

Even a baby could do it. Least it shouldn't be a problem now, once I know what I have to do to coax the thing into doing what I want.

EDIT2: Aaaand working now.

They might look like dots to you and you would be technically correct, but these dots hold the power of Parallax! Which creates the illusion of depth when scrolling around. Also, you might note that I added colour to the proceedings.

Man, doing graphical stuff is really fun. But to be fair, most of the ease of adding this stuff stems from having had to suffer through the headache of making something reasonable beforehand.

Posting to watch. Also, I demand that there be an option to keep SATAN and his DELICIOUS CANDY in the game. It is simply too funny to be left out.

Maybe you could have an equal chance of getting DELICIOUS CANDY and INFINITE HATRED, with corresponding effects?

I agree with Elephant Parade about the SATAN resource.
This is quite amazing!

Seems my favourite (read: laziest and shittiest) method of predetermined randomization doesn't work very well here (square the sucker, and take the modulo of whatever range you want).

Kinda neat looking though.

Kids, this is what happens when you use noise functions the wrong way.

This is what happens when you use them the right way.

EDIT: By the way, is the cloud opacity fine the way it is, or should I turn it up? My monitor shows them just fine, but watching screenshots on my phone shows them to be barely noticeable.

Looks good on my monitor, although I'm not 100% sure what you're going for. But it looks like a good background nebula to me.

Colourful clouds!

Okay, enough of this stuff, now back to work on engine stuff. I have to decide what does what, how much it does that something, and whether it would interfere with doing something else when I add more stuff. In particular, I need to decide whether star systems have resources and pass them onto their planets, or if planets have their own, or if I wanna do something else.

Once you have a graphics generating thing, and you just need to change the parameters, it's hard to break away from the amusement of fiddling with them :P
